Prep RedZone Arkansas Team Previews Perryville

The Perryville Mustangs have a team that has plenty of starters returning for the 2021 season. Last season, the Mustangs finished the 2020 season with a 6-5 record. The Mustangs call the 4-3A Conference home, and it is not the easiest conference to play football. Paris, Mayflower, and Booneville all call the conference home. We are going to take a look at some of Perryville’s key players and give a prediction for the upcoming season. On the offensive side of the ball, the Mustangs will have quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="166722" first="Tyler" last="Givens"] returning for the 2021 season. Givens had a solid season last season and is looking to build off of a season where he passed for 1,589 yards and 10 touchdowns. Givens is a quarterback that is not afraid to pull the ball down and take off with the football. Givens rushed for 520 yards and six touchdowns last season. However, Givens is not the only Mustang that will carries. [player_tooltip player_id="166723" first="Crete" last="Tippen"] churned out 917 yards on the ground last season. Tippen is the kind of running back that is not brought down on initial contact. Meanwhile, in the passing game [player_tooltip player_id="174212" first="Mason" last="Roland"] does an excellent job of getting open for Givens. Roland hauled in 38 receptions for 730 yards. The Mustangs do a great job of mixing the run with the pass. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the Perryville Mustangs have plenty of talent returning on that side of the ball as well. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="174343" first="Brandon" last="Hoyt"] is all over the field for the Mustangs. Hoyt has a nose for the football. In 2020, Hoyt amassed 86 tackles and four of those tackles were behind the line of scrimmage. In the secondary, [player_tooltip player_id="174344" first="Daryn" last="Hubbard"] is building the reputation of being a tackling machine. Hubard was in on 59 tackles last season for the Mustangs, and he can cover the pass and move up and stop the run with equal effectiveness. <strong>2021 Prediction:</strong> Experience is going to be a key factor for the Perryville Mustangs. The 4-3A Conference has never been a cakewalk and this season will not be any different. However, Perryville will be hosting Booneville and being at home and playing in front of your own fans is always a positive. Perryville has a good shot of making the playoffs and should injuries be avoided, the Mustangs will have a chance to have a playoff run in November.
