Over the years, three things are a constant in life in Southwest Arkansas; death, taxes, and the Nashville Scrappers always in contention for a deep playoff run. The Scrappers advanced to the quarterfinals for the third year in a row last season. In this series of articles, we are going to preview the difficult 7-4A Conference. Starting off with the Nashville Scrappers. We are going to look at key players returning and give a prediction on the upcoming 2021 season. Looking first at the offensive side of the ball for the Scrappers. At the quarterback position, the Scrappers has several talented prospects competing for the position. Ethan Gunter saw snaps last season as the backup quarterback. Gunter passed for 365 yards and two touchdowns during the 2020 season. Slade Slayton is a quarterback that will have the opportunity to see some snaps for the Scrappers this season. Both quarterbacks have the ability to cause plenty of problems for the opposing defense. As far as the ground attack, Nashville has a guy that can churn out the yards on the ground. The young man that the Scrappers are going to depend on to get the ground game going is [player_tooltip player_id="177006" first="Eric" last="Grigsby"]. Grigsby has shown that he can churn out the yards on the ground. Last season, he rushed for 203 yards and one touchdown, before going down with an injury. [player_tooltip player_id="149576" first="Tre" last="Hopkins"] is another player that could see some snaps and earn some carries for the Scrappers this season. At the wide receiver spots, the Scrappers have several guys that they can depend on to haul in key receptions. Peyton Hilliard had a knack for hauling in receptions at key moments last season. Hilliard averaged eight yards and reception and he just has a talent for getting open. [player_tooltip player_id="159265" first="Isaiah" last="Jones"] is a wide receiver that has excellent speed for the Scrappers. Jones was on the receiving end of 28 passes for 495 yards. Jones does a terrific job of creating separation from the opposing defensive backs. However, talented players are not just on the offensive side of the ball for the Scrappers. Kamari Cruz is going to be a player to keep an eye on this season at the linebacker position for Nashville. Cruz plays with good speed and is all over the field. He has the potential to play at the next level. Jones picked off two passes a season ago and he has the speed to take it the other direction. <strong>2021 Prediction:</strong> The Scrappers are going to be a force to deal with this season. Nashville has some talented players all over the field and they will need to step up this season. Nashville fans can expect the Scrappers to challenge for another deep playoff run.
