Offensive Standouts from AIT x DC5 WRxDB Camp
In this article:
Today’s story will highlight the top offensive performers from my time out in Pittsburgh covering the AITxDC5 WR/DB camp. Four of the six prospects mentioned in the piece are ranked, with Noah Dudik no longer in our database due to a recent transfer out of state. I’ll be first to admit, the best pass catcher of the event was a prospect I was completely unaware of. This further proves that getting your boots on the ground as a scout matters. You never know who you may find.
Omar Stewart | 6’2, 185 | WR/SS | Farrell | 2022
Said top pass catcher was Omar Stewart, a senior wideout out of Farrell who can give reps at safety, as well as provide production at outside linebacker. Stewart took coaching seriously and was laser-focused on making each rep count, which means just as much as highlight plays on 1on1s. I saw the little things during positionals. Didn’t take a rep off, stayed low throughout his stem, good balance in and out of his cuts. There was a sense of urgency which is crucial when talking a kid’s development. Stewart was involved in all aspects of the event. The athleticism and ball skills were on display during the rest of the event. His high-point ability was on display as he was plucking the ball out of the air with ease on very talented defensive backs. He showed off a wide catch radius that extends above and behind his frame. He showed more than what his measurables might suggest, a towering red zone threat. Stewart created separation on inside-breaking routes with quick feet that caught multiple defenders off guard. He’s got some stride to his name as well. Offensively, Stewart was the prospect who impressed me the most, among others.
Noah Sanders Noah Sanders ATH Jeannette | 2023 PA | 5’7, 150 | WR | Jeannette | 2023
I have heard Noah Sanders Noah Sanders ATH Jeannette | 2023 PA ’ name come up at multiple events I have covered this year. His appearance was a selling point to me and the junior didn’t disappoint. Sanders was as advertised in person. His stature leaves a little left to be desired, nonetheless, the kid showed excellent route running technique. Sander’s was the toughest open-field matchup at the camp, flashing awesome change of direction ability, quick feet, and impressive acceleration after the stem. Good lateral agility too. Sanders was the prospect every DB wanted to lock up, if it wasn’t for said DB’s making life difficult, Sanders may have taken the top spot. He dropped more passes than expected but his tape doesn’t lie. Excited to see where Sanders plays this fall.
Peter Gonzalez Peter Gonzalez 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA | 6’2, 190 | ATH | Mars | 2024
Sophomore Peter Gonzalez Peter Gonzalez 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA out of Mars HS was a surprise name that I didn’t expect to see upon arrival at the camp. Due to a slight groin injury, Gonzalez was limited throughout the second half of the event, which was a bummer, to say the least. This kid is way ahead of the curve, his instincts and awareness are that of a seniors. He already looks like a seasoned route runner, understanding how to utilize his great frame to hold off defenders from making a play on the ball. The little things will continue to develop, however, his overt athleticism was no doubt the story of the camp. I had him slated in the 60-80 range in his class, that all changed seeing him win the 40-yard out race against serious competition, twice. He projects to be a red zone monster for the duration of his high school football career. His combination of speed and size is intriguing. He boasts a filled-out frame and can still run with prospects whose game is all speed. Seeing Gonzalez in person made it clear to me that he is a top 25 prospect in his class, that’s where we have him debuting on our rankings. We expect recruitment to heat up any moment now. Gonzalez is a prime example of why it’s important to attend local events like this one.
Worth Mentioning
Carson Persing Carson Persing 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Danville Area | 2023 State PA | 5’8, 160 | WR | Danville | 2023
I was impressed by Persing’s burst out of his stance and his ability to separate on short-intermediate routes. We are familiar with Persing, him being left off the 2023 rankings is 100% an oversight on our part. He will find himself on the rankings next update solely based on his tape. What I saw live solidified that. There was a lack of balls thrown his way on the 7v7 segment of the event, where Persing was seemingly open on every play. He’s got a knack for the short game. I could see him being a quarterback’s best friend, dominating close to the line of scrimmage.
Noah Dudik | 6’0, 160 | WR/DB | Bishop Chatard, IN | 2023
Dudik was consistent throughout the camp. He verified what his tape showed, a smooth route runner with deceptive quickness whose best trait is his hands. Consistent hands. Easy catches were made as well as occasional contested ones during 1on1s and the 7v7 period. I liked Dudik as a defensive back when turning on the tape, so it was great to see him come out and show how developed he is at wideout. A top 200 player in his class in PA, we will see where he stacks in Indiana.
Amire Spencer Amire Spencer 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA | 5’9, 160 | ATH | Serra Catholic | 2023
Amire Spencer Amire Spencer 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA , who ranked as a top 100 prospect in his class, brought energy and edge rep in and rep out. Love seeing prospects who bring passion and effort in all things they do. Spencer was determined to show he was the best athlete on the field, and he was close to it. He showed great body control during positionals, making sure he stayed balanced and low throughout each rep. Spencer didn’t back away from a single challenge all day. He stepped up to every DB every snap wanting to prove he was the better prospect. A competitive edge like Spencer’s isn’t always a given amongst athletes, that edge goes a long way and is certainly something I would mention if a coach or recruiter wanted to know more.
