Nobody is using 2020 as an excuse anymore – especially Lake Weir head coach Eoghan “Owen” Cullen and his football program.
Last year’s 1-6 record during a pandemic season is all behind the Hurricanes as the summer is under way.
The objective for this program is to build slowly and turn this team around – and with a senior class that is ready to lead and set examples, the build process has certainly started in the shadow of Ocala.
If this group of 2022 prospects continue to pave the way, Coach Cullen’s job will be much easier.
Prospects such as Kristian Downes (SS, 6-1, 175 – 3.2 GPA), Alex Ingram (OT, 6-4, 250 – 3.0 GPA), Dwayne Reid (CB, 5-11, 170 – 2.8 GPA) and middle linebacker Jearld Smith (5-8, 195 – 3.4 GPA).
UNDERCLASSMEN ARE READY TO CONTRIBIUTE
Any time you build a program, there is a need for a group of underclassmen to learn and mature – with an eye on making any program stronger. It was all about competition this past spring and this summer.
Class of 2023 players who are going to be special includes Terrance Brinson (DT, 6-3, 285), Manny Geisel (QB, 6-3 211 – 4.0 GPA), Ja’Mauri Jackson (DE, 6-1, 195 – 2.5 GPA), Thamydious McClain (LB, 6-1, 180) and receiver Devonte Welcome (5-10, 175 – 3.2 GPA).
Also, keep an eye on fast-rising sophomores Henry Clayton (FS, 6-3, 175), Kidany Figueroa (DT, 6-3, 240) and impressive linebacker Amiel Raymond (6-1, 195 – 3.3 GPA), who figure to give the Hurricanes a lift.
