Out of all the 2022 commitments, there were 5 of them in the month of June that really stood out, one of which coming from a small 8-man program. Take a look at the players who made big time decisions this past month:
Nicco Marchiol Nicco Marchiol 6'2" | 220 lbs | QB Hamilton | 2022 State AZ , QB, Hamilton ’22: West Virginia
Marchiol has been an intriguing player to follow since he first got to Hamilton around a year ago from Regis Jesuit High in Colorado. He originally committed to Florida State on January 31st, then decommitted on June 2nd. He then took a handful of visits and narrowed his recruitment down to West Virginia, Arizona State, and Michigan State, ultimately deciding on WVU. He has been possibly the biggest name to follow around AZ and a major prospect on the west coast as well, as he holds around 27 offers.
Michael Masunas Michael Masunas 6'5" | 250 lbs | TE Hamilton | 2022 State AZ , TE, Hamilton ’22: Michigan State
Another Hamilton standout is off the boards as Masunas announced his commitment to Michigan State on June 19th, about a week after his visit. Masunas took visits this summer to TCU, SMU, UNLV, and San Diego State and holds 13 offers in total. He’s a big, athletic kid and should see a big spark in targets during his senior campaign. Masunas has impressed many this offseason at various camps and showcases, and will be a fun player to watch at Hamilton as he’ll look to connect with Marchiol often.
Cooper Ross Cooper Ross 6'5" | 245 lbs | TE Heritage Academy | 2022 State AZ , TE, Heritage ’22: BYU
Ross announced his commitment on the spot to BYU on June 15th, making it the most exciting commitment of the 2022 class considering Ross comes from 8-man Heritage Academy in Mesa. Ross sizes up with great size at 6’5″ 245lbs and is easily the most dominant player in Arizona 8-man football, as he looks like a man amongst boys. Ross held other offers from Northern Arizona, Southwest Minnesota State, and New Mexico Highlands. He had a very strong performance at the BYU camp, ultimately earning an offer and committing on the spot.
WOW! Dreams do come true! After a great camp at BYU, and talks with @coachtuiaki, @CoachSitake, and @CoachPHadley, I have been offered and have committed to play for @BYUfootball! Huge thanks for their confidence, and to my family, @CoachPerrone and @HeritageReese for everything! pic.twitter.com/hUzD1xSVt1

Rudy Varela Rudy Varela 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Casteel | 2022 State AZ , OL, Casteel ’22: Air Force
Varela recently announced his commitment to Air Force, and held other offers from Valparaiso, Army, Navy, and Northern Arizona. He had also drawn interest from other D1 programs such as Arizona, Colorado, Louisville, UNLV, and Colorado State. Varela shows an excellent initial ball get off with good flexibility and explosiveness at the hips. He understands leverage well and is strong at the POA with a good striking ability as well. He will fit in well with the Air Force run-heavy offense given his football IQ to quickly process plays and pick up various stunts on top of his athleticism.

Morris recently announced his commitment to San Diego State on June 27th over offers from Nevada, Northern Arizona, Utah State, Colorado State, Yale, New Mexico State, UNLV, Columbia, and Fresno State. Morris displays solid body control with a large catch radius, and does a great job picking up yards after the catch. Morris is a strong blocker in the run game and a very complete TE overall.
