Learn about some of the top returning prospects in the player capsules below as Prep Redzone highlights each district leading up to the season. Regardless of classification Iowa has some of the best talent you will find taking the field on Friday nights and 3A is looking loaded.
Assumption
Joe Turner Joe Turner 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Davenport Assumption | 2022 State IA , OL, C/O 2022, 6’4, 285, hudl, Twitter
Turner has the ability to clear out gaps like no other and relentlessly plays through the whistle often keeping more than one defender from getting to the ball. He demonstrates impressive bio-mechanics and body control for such a large athlete. Turner will transition to the next level well as he is already technical in the run and pass game.
Aiden Morgan Aiden Morgan 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Davenport Assumption | 2022 IA , DE, C/O 2022, 6’3, 235, hudl, Twitter
Morgan has an abundance of high-end athleticism that is gradually being harnessed into position specific technique. His natural bend, mobility, leverage, and length are great and he has all the makings of a premier pass rusher. Morgan is capable of owning the B and C gaps against the run, too, using violent hands and long arms to create separation.
Ayden Weiman, QB, C/O 2022, 6’0, 180, hudl, Twitter
Weiman is patient behind the line of scrimmage and doesn’t force plays that aren’t there; opposing defenses better win matchups because he won’t give you much to take advantage of. He can create and extend plays to buy open targets when nothing is there on the initial read. Weiman has noticeably impressive footwork in the backfield.
John Argo, LB/RB, C/O 2022, 6’0, 190, hudl, Twitter
Argo has some of the most impressive game speed, from Inside Linebacker or taking direct snaps, that you will find this fall in Iowa. He has so much burst on both sides of the ball when he reads keys to attack or finds daylight to run to. Argo is especially impressive on defense and can slam the door on an offense if they think they have something.
Benton Community
Lawrence Wallace, RB/LB, C/O 2022, 5’9, 190, hudl, Twitter
Wallace can achieve top speed in a hurry and is so skilled at making subtle moves without sacrificing speed as he picks up yards. He has powerful strides and a low center of gravity that make it exceedingly hard to get him down on first or second contact. Wallace is also a big contributor on defense and has the skill set to excel at many positions.
Colin Buch, QB, C/O 2022, 6’1, 185, hudl, Twitter
Buch can stretch the field with a big arm, pick coverage apart underneath, and inflict a lot of damage in the running game. He does a nice job of throwing to spots and releasing the ball in a timely manner to expose windows in coverage. Buch is a really impressive decision maker in the mesh and is an excellent fit to run behind zone blocking.
Jacob Brecht, WR, C/O 2022, 5’11, 185, hudl, Twitter
Brecht brings a lot of value to his offense as a route runner and a weapon on plays like Bubble and Jet. He has plenty of moves and shimmy in confined space that often gets him to the open field for big plays. Brecht is a spark plug for his team, can line up anywhere across formations, and creates a lot of matchup problems with his versatility.
Central DeWitt
Gibson McEwen, WR, C/O 2022, 6’1, 160, hudl, Twitter
McEwen is a highly skilled route runner who thrives at X where his offense can scheme to get him one on one matchups and he takes advantage. His vertical routes are top notch, but his curls and deep outs are among the best you can find at the high school level. McEwen knows how to attack the ball out of breaks and is a reliable target.
Maquoketa
Max Keller, WR, C/O 2022, 5’8, 165, hudl, Twitter
Keller is an ideal fit in the slot who is lightning quick in and out of his breaks, highly focused on securing the catch, and doesn’t let the threat of contact keep him from making plays. He earns his receptions as an impressive stalk and crack blocker. Keller’s skill set is an essential piece of the puzzle in a spread offense and he fulfills his role at a high level.
Mount Vernon
Trenton Pitlik Trenton Pitlik 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Mount Vernon | 2022 State IA , RB/LB, C/O 2022, 5’11, 190, hudl, Twitter
Pitlik plays a very physical brand of football; he is one of Iowa’s top power backs and edge defenders. He delivers blows on both sides of the ball; he destroys blocks of much larger linemen, pummels ball carriers at the point of attack, and barrels through tacklers. Pitlik excels in multiple roles and has as much ability as anyone in the state.
Clark Younggreen, OL/LB, C/O 2023, 6’0, 230, hudl, Twitter
Younggreen is a freight train of an Inside Linebacker and a mauler of a Guard; there is no doubt that he is a ruthless, throwback player. He is very violent on blockers and ball carriers and simply overtakes his opponents at the point of attack. Younggreen finds work as a blocker and is the source of massive collisions working downhill or in pass pro.
Vinton-Shellsburg
Maximo Vasquez, RB, C/O 2022, 5’10, 210, hudl, Twitter
Vasquez is skilled at bursting into his gap, getting square to the field, and building a serious head of steam that wears down defenders. He refuses to go down on first contact; opposing defenses will be in for a long night if they don’t rally to the ball and help each other out. Vasquez brings a lot of value out of the backfield in the passing game, too.
