This loss occurred against Bowdon High, as they lost 23-21. The Trojans would go on to finish the year strong, as they would enter the playoffs, win in the first round, and later meet Commerce High School in the second round. Here, they lost to them in a two score game, as they were defeated 28-14. Because they were not far from winning this game, we expect the Trojans to return to competitive form next season.
Cody Thomas- LB / RB
Out of all of the returning players for the Trojans, Thomas is one of the more versatile players on the roster. Not only does he do a good job of running strong as a ball carrier, but he also plays with tenacity, and strong legs. This same playing style translates to his defensive play, as he moves with decent feet, and plays with good leverage and power. When coming up to make tackles, he dips and rips well, and also does a good job of using his hands. Next season, to make a leap in his ability, we want to see him work on playing with more fluidity and flexibility, as well as effectiveness when in pursuit.
Penn Askew- LB
At the LB position, Askew does a good job of wrapping up on defenders and making tackles. This occurs within the box, as well as along the sidelines as necessary. His decent footwork allows him to transition well into his reads of the run, and when he has to step up as necessary. In addition to this, we also notice that he plays the edge well when necessary, and has a decent use of his hands, and arms. Askew is also consistent against the pass as well, as his movement skills allow him to be able to play different zones. If he can continue to grow into his body, as well as develop in his ability to play and move fluidly, we certainly think that he will continue to be a big time player for his team.
Cade Peterson- DB
For a DB, Peterson has the length and size that you would preferably look for. This build helps him to play with good range, and be able to cause pass break ups, or stops for his team. Along with this, Peterson also moves with good twitch and burst as he gets in and out of his breaks with smooth movement. Peterson also does a good job of finishing plays and catching the ball with good ball skills, which makes him dangerous to opposing teams. Next season, we would like to see him work on the discipline that he plays with, as well as his footwork as he crosses over and runs, and as he flips his hips.
Holt Roberts- WR
Roberts, who is a bit of a slimmer WR, plays with decent speed, and burst. Out of his breaks, he transitions in his speed well, but lacks fluidity in his movement skills at times. His feet may be a bit choppy, but we like the way that he is able to find ways to separate from defenders. With this, he also plays with decent balance, allowing him to withstand various amounts of contact, while also being able to stay on his feet and gain yards after the catch. When catching the football, he does a decent job of catching with his hands, but is also a good role player for his team because of his willingness to block. Next season, look for him to continue to step up for his team, and to be a key component to their success.
