Roster depletions. Position changes. Experience.
Whatever the reason, four players with some significant potential at the receiver position could be set for a breakout season in 2021. They’ve already stood out in camps and spring drills, and it’s clear they will have a concentrated workload this fall.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
<strong>Nick Sowell, Dutch Fork</strong>
With [player_tooltip player_id="59334" first="Elijah" last="Spencer"] off to college and Devin Hyatt transferring to IMG Academy, Sowell may very well be the next man up in an offense that frequently features two top receivers. It doesn’t hurt that Sowell is 6-foot-5, giving new quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="44974" first="Aliam" last="Appler"] a huge target, or that [player_tooltip player_id="61070" first="Antonio" last="Williams"] is going to draw most of opposing defenses’ attention on the outside.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
<strong>Carlton Terry, Conway (pictured)</strong>
After playing quarterback the last two years, Terry is going to move to receiver this fall, at least to start the year. The Tigers have an up-and-coming quarterback in sophomore Devin Grainger, and the tandem could develop into something special in a hurry this fall. In a matter of offseason months, Terry already earned one college offer (so far) as a receiver.
<strong>Keelan Holman, Spring Valley</strong>
The 6-foot-2, 160-pound senior has shown an ability to block downfield, catch the ball in traffic and make the most of his short-yardage receptions. Those three aspects of his game could increase the number of times his number is called, as coach Robin Bacon is sure to want to reward his receiver for doing the small things the right way.
<strong>Mazeo Bennett, Greenville</strong>
Bennett will eventually put some more weight on his 150-pound frame, and when he does, he could end up being one of the better gadget players in the entire Upstate. As a freshman last fall, he took snaps at receiver, wing back, defensive back and kick/punt returner. He's be transferring to nearby Greenville High, and just like no one will overlook the Red Raiders this fall, no one will overlook Bennett.
