With some impressive coaches and talent over the past decade, this is a program that has been very close to getting over that playoff hump for a long time, and head coach Johnnie Sloan and an impressive coaching are ready to build this team back into a serious contender.
On Saturday, this program played well all day, and in the end, took home the Keiser University Summer 7-on-7 event in West Palm Beach.
Beating Port St. Lucie Centennial in the finals, this is a team that certainly turned heads on a warm summer day.
With so many independent events going on during the NCAA “Dark Recruiting Period”, Keiser and head coach Doug Socha rolled the welcome mat for so many teams from all over.
COUGARS ROAR WAS LOUD
This is a team that has a chance to be special. With impressive talent – along with tremendous coaching – has put this team in a situation where they are building toward a solid future.
Seniors such as Indiana University-bound Trevell Mullen Trevell Mullen 5'11" | 155 lbs | DB Coconut Creek | 2022 State FL have continued to elevate this team, and that doesn’t appear to stop.
Class of 2022 prospects also include Dorian Barnett (LB), Arnez Green (DB), Xavier Hampton (DE), Damian Heller (RB/LB), Carl Mehu (S), Richard Nwaukoni (DE), Brian Skipper (RB) and versatile Jeremyah Taylor (WR).
UNDERCLASSMEN ARE GOING TO BE SOLID
Coach Sloan and the Cougars understand that building this program to the level where it can be, it will take a number of players to get it done.
Starting with the 2023 standouts Aundra Atterbery (DB), Juan Carlos (OL), Asante Daniel (QB), impressive kicking specialist Jeffrey Hernandez, Kevone Keane (OL), DaShawn McEachern (QB), Davari Morris (WR), Aaron Placide (DL) and receiver Godson Sinelien.
Class of 2024 prospects will also be worth watch. Players such as Keon Daceus (OG), Nathan Greene (WR), Jamarie Hostzclaw (RB), Raymond Jackson (S), Gerald Magnus (DT), Hyajah Miller (DB), Andre Poitier-Abreau (CB), Elrik Simmons (WR), Semaj Wallace (WR) and linebacker Damaine Wilson.
Also keep an eye on Class of 2025 incoming freshmen Jahar Brown (WR) and linebacker Nimari Brantley.
THE TALENT CAME TO KEISER
As one of the top NAIA programs in the country, it was easy to see why so many teams, coaches and prospects headed to West Palm Beach this summer.
While Coconut Creek took home that title, and Centennial (Coach Josh Watkins) was second, there were other quality teams, prospects and coaches on hand as well.
Programs such as Boca Raton St. Andrews (Coach Jimmy Robertson), Coconut Creek Monarch (Coach Calvin Davis), Coral Springs (Coach Ian Headley), Coral Springs Taravella (Coach Charles Hafley), Deltona (Coach Jeff Smothers), East Lee (Coach P.J. Gibbs), Fort Pierce Central (Coach Mike Watkins), Fort Pierce Westwood (Coach Lee Jackson), Greenacres John I. Leonard (Austin Van Es), Jensen Beach (Coach Tim Caffey) and Jupiter Christian (Coach Baz Alfred).
Also, there we Lantana Santaluces (Coach Brian Lewis), Miami Booker T. Washington (Coach Gerald Cox), Pompano Beach (Coach Johnathan Firth), Riviera Beach Inlet Grove (Coach Alphonso Smith), Somerset Canyons (Coach Alex Gonzalez) and rising program West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (Coach Jack Daniels).
