Sexauer steps down after 20 years as the Packer Head Coach but will remain the school´s Activities Director. Coach Spriegl cites the 16 returning Seniors as part of the familiarity that the Packers have to offer as support for the 1st year Head Coach.
At the top of the list of returnees is Kevin Flippen. A 5´10, 230 pound Running Back and Linebacker leads by example and is a tough-nosed, gritty competitor. He is projected to contribute on offense and defense for the Packers this fall.
Another returning Senior is 6’2, 220 pound Brandon Ogren. Ogren, a 3 sport standout, plays hockey and is a talented track athlete as well. Look for Ogren to start the season under center for the Packers but don’t be surprised to see the versatile athlete also get some reps at Linebacker.
Alanzo Dodd is a 6´3, 185 pound WR/RB candidate for South St. Paul. Dodd, a Division 1 basketball recruit is a tremendous athlete that has led the resurgence of the perennial underachieving Packer basketball program. Look for Dodd to be the big play guy in the fall.
Steven Ikens is a 5´11, 180 pound 3 sport athlete who also competes as a Swimmer and in Track and Field. Ikens looks to play a key role for the Pack this fall as a Running Back and Linebacker to start the season
Twin brothers and multi-sport standouts Tay and Tre Harmon are back to help the team at Wide Reciever and Defensive Back. Both are 5´11, 185 pound athletes who were also key contributors to the state tournament qualifying basketball team.
A couple of underclassmen are being projected to start in the fall: 6´2, 240 pound Mitch Venner started on the defensive line as a freshman. The very strong and coachable player looks to step up to a premier role this fall. Another young man expected to have a major role this season is 5´11, 185 pound sophomore Isaac Burk. Burk is smart, reliable, and will fill a spot at Linebacker this season.
South St. Paul will host 5A powerhouse St. Thomas Academy Friday, September 3rd at 7 pm at Ettinger field.
