Some of the nation’s best hail from the state of Georgia, and major college programs from across the country are looking to the peach state to find quality defensive backs for their class. Whether it’s a safety, or cornerback, and someone who can play both, the state is loaded with playmaking defenders in the secondary.
The North Georgia area in particular is home to some of the state’s best cornerbacks. Here are some impressive CB prospects to know about in North Georgia for the 2021 season.
Michael Daugherty Michael Daugherty 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grayson | 2023 State GA – Grayson
There aren’t many guys who can say they started for the mighty Grayson Rams as an underclassman, but Daugherty is one of those guys. The state-champion defensive back started for the Rams as a sophomore last season, proving he can more than hold his own against any receiver in the state at such a young age. He has tremendous technique, quick feet, ball skills, and size at 6-foot-1 180-pounds. He’s long and knows how to stay with bigger receivers on the outside. He checks all the boxes as a true cover corner and now holds offers from Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, among others. Daugherty made 46 tackles and intercepted one pass last season. Look for Daugherty to lead the Rams secondary this year in hopes of repeating as 7A champs.
Avieon Terrell Avieon Terrell 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Westlake | 2023 State GA – Westlake
In West Atlanta is where you’ll find another athletic cornerback in Westlake’s Avieon Terrell Avieon Terrell 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Westlake | 2023 State GA . The 5-foot-10 195-pounder is another fundamentally-sound cornerback who is constantly working to perfect his craft. He is the younger brother of current Atlanta Falcon cornerback AJ Terrell, so Avieon knows what it takes to play at the next level and possibly on Sundays. He’s a playmaker who is technically sound and already holds offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida, among others. He’s put on some decent weight in the off-season and has performed well across multiple 7-on-7 tournaments this spring and summer. The Westlake Lions will have one of the best defenses in Atlanta this year, and Terrell will by a big reason why.
Ethan Nation Ethan Nation 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Roswell | 2023 State GA – Roswell
One of the hottest prospects out of Georgia this spring, Nation is a ball-hawking cornerback who plays a lot bigger than his size at 6-foot-0 170-pounds. He can jump out of the gym and has some of the best ball skills you’ll find from any defensive back in the state. The Roswell Hornet has recently picked up offers from Georgia, Auburn, USC, Miami, South Carolina, Oregon, among others. The Fulton County native intercepted 8 passes last year in just 8 games and proved that he’s one of the top young cornerbacks in the South. He knows how to locate the football in the air as well as anyone in his class and made a handful of key interceptions and breakups for the Roswell 7-on-7 team last month at the Corky Kell tournament. He’s good speed and closes well when the ball is in the air. The early four-star is full of potential and extremely coachable. If he continues to add weight while developing his craft, Nation has a chance to be one of the top 2023 CB prospects in the country. Last fall, Nation recorded 19 tackles with 8 interceptions.
Kayin Lee Kayin Lee 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Cedar Grove | 2023 State GA – Cedar Grove
Maybe the best of the bunch, Kayin Lee Kayin Lee 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Cedar Grove | 2023 State GA is a highly-impressive 2023 cornerback who took home Defensive Back MVP honors at the Atlanta Under Armour Camp after showcasing his natural cover skills and in 1-on-1s. He’s changed his body a lot over the last year and is put together well from a physical standpoint. He always knew how to cover, and now Lee can be physical against bigger receivers and have an edge on that end as well. He’s so tough to create separation on and knows how to make a play on the ball when needed. He’s a fluid runner, technically sounds, and knows how to turn his hips and stay with a speedy defender. He’s a true playmaker and someone who can work on an island on the outside. He’s young, but Lee knows how to lock down a defender. Look for the four-star to continue to rise in the 2023 rankings moving forward.
