As more high school offenses move to a pass-heavy scheme, it’s important for teams to develop and produce quality pass catchers. Impressive quarterbacks are emerging left and right, which means receivers are becoming more and more important for teams looking to make a state title run. The peach state is one that produces high-quality D1 receivers on a yearly basis, and the 2022 class is no different.
Here are the top-ranked wide receiver prospects to know in the 2022 class...
[player_tooltip player_id="33878" first="Kojo" last="Antwi"] - Lambert
Ranked as the No.1 receiver in the state, you won’t find many more explosive than Antwi. The Forsyth County native recently made his college decision, choosing to play at Ohio State over Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, among others. The 6-foot-0 190-pounder is an elite route runner with great hands. He can line up on the outside and beat defenders deep, and he can line up in the slot and run some routes in short-yardage situations as well. Antwi’s quick feet allow him to change directions well and create separation with ease. He’s a fluid runner, and his ability to stop on a dime and change directions makes it tough for any defensive back to stay with him. He’s an excellent down-field threat and has an extra gear that helps him get behind his defenders. He’s also dangerous after the catch. The four-star consistently makes defenders miss and is so tough to tackle in the open field. He can zig-zag past defenders and always has an eye on the end-zone. He’s a true game-changing receiver who can take over a game due to his speed, athleticism, and overall explosiveness.
[player_tooltip player_id="95161" first="De’Nylon" last="Morrissette"] - North Cobb
The state’s No.2 ranked receiver, North Cobb standout [player_tooltip player_id="95161" first="De’Nylon" last="Morrissette"], has some of the best hands you’ll find across the South. At 6-foot-1 200-pounds, Morrissette is as good a route-runner as you’ll find for his size. He’s heavier than most receivers in the state and can be tough to bring down by just one defender. What makes him stand out among others is the speed that he has for someone 200-pounds. The former Bronco was outstanding as a junior last year, catching 63 passes for 824 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was the team’s leading receiver, and now he’ll be catching passes from 2023 QB [player_tooltip player_id="34008" first="Malachi" last="Singleton"] at North Cobb. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to make plays at North Cobb who has their sights set on a state championship run this fall. Overall, Morrissette does a great job of getting yards after the catch and always finds a way to fall forward for a final yard or two. He adjusts his body well in the air and does a nice job of coming down with tough catches in traffic. He went up against impressive defensive backs all season and still found a way to make a big impact each week.
[player_tooltip player_id="33874" first="Janiran" last="Bonner"] - Cedar Grove
The Cedar Grove Saints are one of the best teams across the state, and they’ll be led by Bonner on offense as they try to make another deep playoff run. At 6-foot-1 195-pounds, the future Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket is explosive for his size and has a knack for making big plays. He’s big enough to make plays on the outside, but shifty enough to play in the slot and make plays in the middle of the field. He’s quick, he’s a good route runner, and he can be used in a lot of different ways. He’s reliable in the screen game and can be a down-field threat as well. When he has the ball, he’s looking for the end-zone, and he’ll bring that playmaking ability to Atlanta the second he gets to campus.
[player_tooltip player_id="95162" first="Sam" last="Mbake"] - North Cobb
Another former Brookwood Bronco, Mbake is a big, possession receiver at 6-foot-3 205-pounds who holds offers from Florida, LSU, Miami, among others. Ranked as the No.4 wide receiver in the state, Mbake is coming off an impressive junior year last season where he caught 54 passes for 473 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s a big weapon and uses his size to his advantage on the outside. He shows good ball skills and runs pretty well for a bigger receiver. He’ll have to share the load with Morrissette at North Cobb, but he has the size and overall talent to have a giant senior season this fall.
