BOX ELDER, SD-- We move into our second team preview as we cross over to the West River to learn about the Douglas Patriots. The Patriots finished with a subpar record in the 2020 season, but for sure have a handful of prospects you need to know about here at Prep Redzone Dakotas!

The Prospect List
The Patriots going into 2021 are an under-the-radar bunch. It was tough to find the film on the bulk of these young men from the Patriots, but I did get some solid notes from head coach Dan Maciejczak on a few who did not have their film available yet. The Patriots will be a program if I am a college coach; I would check back on a few games into the season, especially to see some of these Class of 2022 prospects grow on the field and
I project the Patriots will have a lot of small school prospects, similar to last season as they sent seven players last year to the college football ranks in Trevor Anderson (Dakota State), Malik Ahmed-Hosie (Chadron State), David Severson (Chadron State), and four players to the Mayville State Comets in [player_tooltip player_id="56373" first="Tyler" last="Clark"], Thomas Holy Rock, Garrett Jamison, and [player_tooltip player_id="56420" first="John" last="Updike"]. That is a really impressive number despite the Patriot’s record back in 2020.

2022 PROSPECTS
Devyn Born | LB/FB/TE | Hudl Profile
Born is a 6’0 220 pound prospect that had a solid junior season on both sides of the ball. He’s also a prospect that has been active this summer in the Patriot’s weight room and should raise his stock even higher in his senior season.
Payton Dewitt | RB/OLB/DB | Hudl Profile
Dewitt is a 5’10 180 pound prospect that has grown well in the weight room this summer but has grown a lot off the field as well. He lines up as the Patriot’s primary player at tailback this Fall while also playing outside linebacker and defensive back.
Kort Nicolaus | FB/LB/C | Hudl Profile
Nicolaus wants to play college football and will need to depend on a big senior season to get some looks from some of the small school programs. Another prospect from the Patriots that have been a gym rat this summer in the weight room.
2023 PROSPECTS
[player_tooltip player_id="101165" first="Jason" last="Maciejczak"] | OL/DL/FB
Maciejczak has grown even stronger this summer to now 6’4 320 pounds and has had some great showing at some FCS prospect camps this summer. This young man has great athleticism for his size and such a physical presence when he gets his hands on someone regardless of what side of the ball it is. It may sound repetitive, but I think Maciejczak is one of the most fun prospects to watch at fullback, not just in the Dakotas but from what I have watched in the Midwest. Maciejczak is a defined finisher on the Patriot’s offensive line and is such a hard worker anywhere you line him up. I am not sure how recent it’s been since the Rapid City area saw a Division I prospect, but I am willing to bet Maciejczak will get there when it’s all said and done.
