Today’s story will focus on returning rushers in 2A Region 2, the South Georgia are known for producing high-level rushers. Here are the leading returning rushers from the region who are poised for big years this fall…
Aahiyus Allen (Jeff Davis)
Allen might be the best small-town running back without an offer. The junior back is an athletic 5-foot-11 190-pounder who was the “bell cow” for the Yellow Jackets in 2020. As a junior, Allen led Jeff Davis High to a 9-2 record with 1,043 yards and 9 TDs. He was consistently productive all season and took control of the offense as a third-year starter. IF defenses missed an assignment and didn’t play in their gaps correctly, Allen would take full advantage. He has the ability to wear down defenses and was tough to bring down due to his size and natural balance. He showed good burst and the ability to break off a big run on any particular carry. Allen holds a 3.5 overall GPA and was named 1st-team All-Region even though he missed three games. Allen is a prospect to know and could end up being one of the best in South Georgia with a big senior season.
Bryce Davis – Vidalia:
The small town of Vidalia is known for onions, but in 2021 it could be known as the home of Bryce Davis. One of the top athletes in Southeast Georgia, Davis was a true dual-threat weapon for the Indians last year but did most of his damage on the ground. The region’s leading rusher from last year, Davis is athletic enough to make plays on both sides of the ball due to his speed and chance of direction, and that’s why he was able to run all over most defenses he played against last year. He’s a natural runner with great vision and burst when he has the ball. He played QB last year, so he did throw for close to 1,000 yards and 8 TDs, but he was dangerous as a runner all season. He showed good speed, balance, and a true nose for the end-zone. As a junior last season, Davis rushed 132 times for 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards in six games and led the Indians to a 7-3 record and a region championship.
Jimarion Guyton – Bacon County:
In a backup role last season, Guyton was still able to make an impact as a rusher and compiled over 430 yards rushing last season as a sophomore. He’s a hard runner, and when given an opportunity, he was able to put the team on the back and pick up big yards. Guyton is expected to be the first-team back for Bacon County this year, and there’s a chance the 5-foot-8 180-pounder will get even more opportunities and show what he’s capable of. He’s not overly big, but he changes directions well and can really take off in the open space. He’s got some speed and can fly past defenders if they don’t have the correct angle. Look for Guyton to be one of the breakout players from the region this fall.
