The Top Five 2022 Defensive Backs

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Many of the top players in the class of 2022 entered their junior seasons as underrated players with little attention coming their way. Every player listed in the rankings made the best of their shortened season, earning their way under the spotlight and being selected as the top in their positions.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">The top five defensive backs are players who were flying under the radar before their junior years. Now, they have fought their way to the front of the pack and solidified themselves as the top defensive backs in state.</span> <span style="font-size: 14pt;"><b>[player_tooltip player_id="22693" first="Malique" last="Singleton"] | Grandview | 6’0, 170lbs </b></span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Singleton finished his junior season with a total of 59 tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble. He even returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns. Singleton is an extremely poised DB with an advanced football IQ. He finished last season with 27 total tackles, four pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown off of a punt return. On one of his forced fumbles, he simply took the ball from the opposing returner and ran it back for a score. He finished his junior year with 38 total tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. When running with a receiver, he knows to sit in the hip pocket while maintaining leverage and playing the ball in the air.
