During the season, the Panthers put up a respectable 3-4 record but were struck by injuries. Then, this spring, Jaskowiak got injured during an AAU practice. Despite the setbacks, Jaskowiak has stayed focused on his senior football season and beyond.
“We started pretty good,” Jaskowiak said, “but then, like our whole team got hurt. At one point, we had thirteen starters out. A lot of guys had to step up. We played a lot of tough teams, and things didn’t go our way sometimes.”
The team was most effective when they were able to play some bully ball.
“We ran the ball well for sure,” Jaskowiak said. “Defensively, we were good against the run. We were physical when we had our full team.”
The injury bug did not miss Jaskowiak.
“My season was decent. In Week Four, I sprained my ankle, and that took a bit of a toll; I missed one game. Other than that, I had a good season.”
Jaskowiak is the definition of a downhill runner.
“I am physical. I am not one to make someone miss. I lower my shoulder and fight for yards.”
A two-year starter at running back, he expects to play linebacker as well during his senior season. Unfortunately, preparing for his new position hit a snag.
“I would be working on footwork, but I am rehabbing a torn meniscus. I tore it about a month ago. Rehab has gone good. If it continues to go well, I should be back by August.”
Not able to work his legs, Jaskowiak has focused on his upper body.
“I have been working my upper body four times a week. That is about all I can do right now. I will do my knee rehab three times a day. Workout-wise I rotate around with my upper body.”
Not just playing AAU ball, Jaskowiak has a significant impact on the high school basketball team too.
“I am the main scorer in basketball,” the junior told prepredzonemn.com. “I have been starting on varsity since ninth grade. I either play small forward or power forward.”
His injury has dramatically altered his summer.
“I was planning on going to some camps in June, but not anymore. I have been on a few virtual visits, and I will be going to NDSU and SDSU for visits this week. I am visiting Wyoming next week.”
Jaskowiak has an offer from South Dakota.
“They are very supportive. They don’t think the injury will be a problem. They want to get me down to a camp and at least check it out.”
Part of the reason he will be doubling as a linebacker next year is to get him ready for a likely position change in college.
“I am being recruited as a linebacker,” the 6’4″ 225-pound athlete said. “The last time I played linebacker was my freshman year. (Recruiters) saw my basketball and football film and said that I have good footwork and that running back translates well to linebacker. If I put on twenty or thirty pounds, they think I can be a good strong-side linebacker.”
There is a chance Jaskowiak – who collects basketball shoes – specifically Air Jordans – stays on the offensive side of the ball in college.
“I usually talk to coaches from North Dakota State, South Dakota State, North Dakota, and Wyoming once a week. They are looking at me as a tight end or fullback.”
With an injury-free 2021 football season, Jaskowiak and the Panthers are set up for big improvements. With his individual improvements, there is no telling how many more offers will be coming Jaskowiak way.
