Many athletes, through excellent film and camp or combine performances, climbed the ladder since the last rankings update. Take a look at some movement that occurred and the noteworthy young men who are making big names for themselves. RB1 [player_tooltip player_id="23983" first="Titus" last="Christiansen"], Southeast Polk, 5’10, 175, hudl, Twitter Christiansen, climbing all the way to the top spot in the Running Back Rankings, has unparalleled speed when carrying the football. His Junior film showcases abilities that are vast and executed at levels many players can only dream of. His ability to cut, break, and burst with excellent body control gets him to daylight often. Once Christiansen gets to space there is no catching him; he channels that extra gear and separates from the pack. QB2 [player_tooltip player_id="147446" first="Eddie" last="Burgess"], Montezuma, 6’4, 230, hudl, Twitter Burgess may very well play another position when he gets to College and the offers are certainly rolling in. He has the size and athletic skill set to play virtually any position on the field. Right now, though, Burgess slides into the number two spot in Quarterback rankings. His arm strength is top notch and his throwing mechanics compliment the routes he targets exceptionally well. Burgess is a monster on the ground who can run over and around opponents. OL2 [player_tooltip player_id="23953" first="Kale" last="Krogh"], Ballard, 6’6, 265, hudl, Twitter Krogh has the frame and measurables you want in a top Offensive Lineman. That, paired with his vicious, punishing blocks and ability to execute a huge list of blocks moves him up to number two in the Offensive line rankings. Krogh is violent at the line of scrimmage and, what is more impressive, is how he gets to space and locks on skill players when climbing, pulling, or releasing. Good luck getting to the Quarterback against Krogh, his pass pro is just as elite. OL3 [player_tooltip player_id="99933" first="Luke" last="Vonderhaar"], Pleasant Valley, 6’4, 245, hudl, Twitter Vonderhaar moves up to number three in the Offensive Line rankings due to his outstanding on field mechanics and technique. There are a lot of young Offensive Linemen who look great in drills or training, but very few carry it over to live reps the way Vonderhaar does. He plays with posture and leverage in and out of his stance that creates tons of velocity and force. Opposing players just can’t recover when he gets his hands on and he finishes snaps violently. WR3 [player_tooltip player_id="23992" first="Graham" last="Friedrichsen"], Urbandale, 6’2, 180, hudl, Twitter Friedrichsen is a big time downfield playmaker and a reliable underneath target all rolled up into one Wide Receiver; he moves up to the number three spot in the updated rankings. He gets wide open with top notch straight line speed and clean breaks. Friedrichsen also has the ability to use impressive physical strength in high traffic areas of the field or tight coverage. He can outleap and outmaneuver defenders to come down with contested balls. DL4 [player_tooltip player_id="100041" first="Benjamin" last="Reiland"], Waukee Northwest, 6’4, 230, highlights, Twitter Reiland climbs to the number four spot in the updated Defensive Line rankings. He is a game wrecker at the line of scrimmage who fights pressure excellently to take space away from an offense down after down. He has pass rush ability that is mature beyond his years. Reiland destroys blocks and goes through opponents to achieve it. When he recognizes pass he adjusts speed, surface, and angles; he is a lot of fun to watch executing power moves. LB4 [player_tooltip player_id="23980" first="Ryley" last="Barnett"], Cedar Falls, 6’0, 195, hudl, Twitter Barnett is no doubt one of the best tacklers in the state; not only in the way he executes textbook technique, but in the speed and violence he carries through fundamentals. Barnett’s stock rises and he moves into the number four spot in the Linebacker rankings because of the way he can track and hunt down ball carriers. Barnett can blitz at a very high level, too, and covers a zone just as well. The efficiency with which he gets the job done is outstanding. DB5 [player_tooltip player_id="24013" first="Caelen" last="DeVault"], Nodaway Valley, 6’1, 175, hudl, Twitter DeVault claims the number five spot in the updated Defensive Back Rankings. He is a ballhawk personified who covers so much ground to make himself a factor every down against the run and pass. DeVault has very well-developed skills when the ball is in the air and great instincts to boot. He makes plenty of plays on the ball and often separates opponents from it if need be. He fills the alley and box with a reckless abandon that is characteristic of the best Safeties. LB5 [player_tooltip player_id="23956" first="Cade" last="Sheedy"], Davenport North, 6’0, 205, hudl, Twitter Sheedy is one of the state’s more explosive two-way players who has an enormous skill set. He is a tackling machine on Defense and this earns him the number five spot in the updated Linebacker rankings. He has such violent hands that he uses to defeat blocks in space and squeeze opponents down when near the line of scrimmage. Sheedy is so quick to diagnose, react, and take a path to the ball. His closing speed gives ball carriers no chance. WR7 [player_tooltip player_id="24008" first="Hayden" last="Huntley"], Waukee Northwest, 6’0, 175, hudl, Twitter Huntley is one of the biggest stock-risers in this rankings update. He moves up to the number seven spot in the Wide Receiver column through some very impressive ability showcased on film. He is so shifty in his routes and often loses defenders in and out of breaks. Huntley has the straight line speed to threaten vertically and the ball carrying skills to dominate after the catch or on quick hitting plays. Huntley’s field awareness throughout a down is top notch. DL7 [player_tooltip player_id="101038" first="Andrew" last="Harris"], Southeast Polk, 6’3, 235, hudl, Twitter Harris has plenty of natural ability and gets to work against some of the top Offensive Line talent in Iowa every day. It is no wonder he has made big progress and finds himself moving up to number seven in the Defensive Line category. Harris has high-end functional strength and it shows up clearly in his technique. He has impressive body control out of his stance and can react to whatever his opponent does. Harris can also destroy a pocket with great power moves. DL8 [player_tooltip player_id="100043" first="Jaylen" last="Pettus-McMullen"], Dowling Catholic, 6’2, 220, hudl, Twitter Pettus moved up quite a few spots all the way to number eight in this version of the Defensive Line rankings. He is one of the best inside gap pass rushers in the state and really knows how to use his hands and feet to open up rush lanes and apply a ton of pressure. Pettus knows exactly how to set up his moves to freeze, outleverage, or open up an opponent. He is also a punishing presence against the run and commands extra attention. LB9 [player_tooltip player_id="100845" first="Jayden" last="Angle"], Boone, 6’3, 220, hudl, Twitter Angle has proven to be virtually unblockable in the box and that is what moved him up to number nine in the Linebacker rankings. He possesses elite hip mobility and body control to take surface area away from blockers and run right by them. He also has the mechanics and power to plow right through them. Either way, Angle shows no hesitation whatsoever in flying to the ball. He is a disruptive force in the middle of the field and causes nightmares for an offense. DL10 [player_tooltip player_id="100044" first="Luke" last="Gaffney"], Linn-Mar, 6’3, 240, hudl, Twitter Gaffney cracks the top ten in the Defensive Line column with plenty of room left in his very high ceiling to climb more rungs in the near future. Gaffney is so aggressive and technical in the way he attacks his job description. He uses his reach expertly to keep blockers at bay and work off of violent strikes and long arms. Gaffney disengages to the ball impressively and knows how to take advantage of opponents who don’t stay balanced against his pass rush. TE11 [player_tooltip player_id="100050" first="Ethan" last="Snieder"], Sioux City East, 6’4, 215, hudl, Twitter Snieder moves just outside the top ten to the eleven spot in an absolutely talent loaded Tight End category. He does an outstanding job running routes over the middle of the field. Snieder knows how to split zones and, even if someone picks him up, he uses his size and catch radius to make himself open no matter what. Snieder is versatile and can line up at the H or in the Slot, like the modern Tight End should be able to. He is also a very proficient blocker. OL11 [player_tooltip player_id="99893" first="Joe" last="Turner"], Davenport Assumption, 6’4, 285, hudl, Twitter Turner, who already had the measurables, made a ton of progress this offseason in expanding and improving his position specific technique. These big strides move him up to number eleven in a very impressive class of Offensive Linemen. Turner is very explosive and moves with a lot of velocity, especially for his size. Turner is capable of overpowering opponents and does so often, but also has really impressive footwork to move with and to defenders. DB12 [player_tooltip player_id="100889" first="Jake" last="Erickson"], Fort Dodge, 6’0, 190, hudl, Twitter Erickson, a hard hitting and rangy safety, bumps up to number twelve in the Defensive Back column. He is versatile in both his athletic ability and the assignments he can fulfill on defense. Erickson has high-end coverage ability and demolishes ball carriers, in space or the box, like a Linebacker. This ability is not common and adds a ton of value to what he brings to the table. Erickson is the kind of player coordinators absolutely love when preparing for an offense. QB13 [player_tooltip player_id="98655" first="Dionte" last="Fliss"], Prairie, 6’1, 190, hudl, Twitter Many out there might be tempted to put Fliss in the “Athlete” category, and maybe he will play another position at the next level, but the improvements he has made can’t be ignored. Fliss has a crazy strong arm and knows exactly how to release the ball from different positions. The trajectories he puts his passes on fit routes and coverage well. Fliss is becoming an impressive decision maker and a dual threat in the truest form. He is Quarterback number thirteen. LB15 [player_tooltip player_id="100846" first="Gavin" last="Cornelison"], ACGC, 5’11, 210, hudl, Twitter Cornelison plays with some of the most impressive leverage out there while taking on blocks and making tackles. His first-rate ability to evade blockers and blow up ball carriers moves him up to number fifteen in the Linebacker rankings. Cornelison has downhill and sideline to sideline speed that gets him to the ball regardless of what an offense is trying to do. He is disciplined to his keys and takes precise angles underneath or over the top of blocks. LB22 [player_tooltip player_id="100802" first="Jared" last="Hoodjer"], Janesville, 6’2, 175, hudl, Twitter Efficiency and violence is the name of Hoodjer’s game. He is a savage at the Linebacker position, which puts him at number twenty-two in that category. Hoodjer does such an impressive job of tracking ball carriers, squaring them up, and completely overtaking them with excellent technique. Hoodjer’s footwork and instincts are among the best in the state; he has a very good chance of continuing his ascent in both the Linebacker and State rankings.
