Continue ReadingThe countdown is on as we sit here today at under two and a half months until kickoff for the high school football season. Camp season is now fully under way on college campuses around the country and recruiting buzz is alive and well. 2022’s are still receiving offers and starting to narrow lists, 2023’s are getting hard looks as recruiting boards start to narrow, and 2024’s and 2025’s (yes 2025’s) are picking up some of their first offers. Let’s take a look at some news and notes from around the state in the last week.
- Nobody is hotter in-state offer wise than Jordan Anthony Jordan Anthony 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Tylertown | 2022 State MS , as the Tylertown track star has picked up 3 more D1 offers this week. At the rate we are going Anthony is going to have the opportunity to play wherever he wants. Unbelivable testing numbers: 4.36 40 yard, 10.3 100m, have been verified and will prove to make Anthony a matchup nightmare as a WR at the next level.
- John Slaughter John Slaughter 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Southaven | 2023 State MS is another guy who has had a great couple of weeks on the camp scene as well. SEC offers from Tennessee and Ole Miss have rolled in over the course of the last week and more are well on their way. Slaughter projects as a true ATH who will probably find his home in the secondary. He will play a major role for Southaven defensively in the coming year.
- Speaking of Southaven, who will have one of the best defenses in the north part of the state, Aaron Bryant Aaron Bryant 6'4" | 300 lbs | DL Southaven | 2022 State MS , has cut his list to 5 potential schools: LSU, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, and Georgia. Bryant is an inside technique prospect with NFL potential.
- Will Hall and his Southern Miss staff has stayed hot on the recruiting trail flipping former FAU commit Wil Saxton Wil Saxton 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL Benton Academy | 2022 State MS of Benton, MS. Saxton is a hard-nosed offensive linemen that is a perfect fit for what Hall and company are trying to do in Hattiesburg. Although far from over, what a tremendous recruting job done by the Golden Eagles so far.
- 2025 offers are starting to slowly appear and Reginald Vaughn a defensive lineman projection from St. Joseph Catholic has already secured a couple of big ones. Mississippi State and LSU have extended offers to the ’25 prospect who will likely be one of the biggest recruits in his class. Vaughn was on campus for camp at Mississippi State last weekend and absolutely showed out.
- Jimothy Lewis of Madison-Ridgeland Academy is the latest 2024 prospect to see his recruitment explode. Mississippi State and Vanderbilt have extended offers in the last week for the lineman who is still playing both wayss
