As the offseason progresses Prep RedZone Arkansas is going to continue to look at teams throughout the state of Arkansas. This week we are going to get to know the Hot Springs Trojans. Hot Springs has a roster that is talented but has been flying under the radar. The 2021 season is an opportunity for the Trojans to make some noise and in the process put the spotlight on some talented players.
Prep RedZone Arkansas recently had the good fortune to speak with Trojan’s head coach Darrell Burnett. Burnett was excited about the season and was looking forward to getting a full offseason with his team this summer. The Trojans have the talent to make a run for the playoffs and play well into November if they can stay healthy.
[player_tooltip player_id="139012" first="Isaac" last="Shelor"]-Quarterback-2022
The Hot Springs Trojans have experience returning in the form of [player_tooltip player_id="139012" first="Isaac" last="Shelor"] at the quarterback position. Shelor shows terrific accuracy on intermediate passes, and he can fit the ball into some tight windows. He has a strong arm and does a good job of trusting his wide receivers to make plays and haul in the passes. A trait that will stand out this season is just how mobile Shelor is in the pocket. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field and making the throws.
[player_tooltip player_id="75115" first="Pierce" last="Smalley"]-Wide Receiver/Defensive Back-2022
Smalley is an electric player on both sides of the ball. He does a great job of always being around the football. On the defensive side of the ball, we see a player that not only sticks with the opposing wide receiver in coverage but also make a tackle. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the ball, the Hot Springs coaching staff does a great job of getting the ball into Smalley’s hands and creating plays for him. Look for Smalley to have an impressive season this season and the scholarship offers should continue to roll in for the talented Trojan.
[player_tooltip player_id="158444" first="Deshawn" last="Roberts"]-Wide Receiver-2022
Last season, Roberts showed that he is a big play threat from anywhere on the field. He is a player that can go up and high point the football. Roberts uses his athletic ability well to create separation. Look for Roberts to be a target in the red zone. With Roberts and Smalley, the Trojans have players that can stretch the field. The Hot Springs offense is going to be a fun unit to watch.
[player_tooltip player_id="156344" first="Blake" last="McLelland"]-Wide Receiver/Defensive Back-2022
McLelland is another dangerous Hot Springs wide receiver. He does an excellent job of creating separation with the use of his speed. McLelland’s routes are very crisp, and he is a dangerous player running the crossing routes. McLelland is going to be a matchup nightmare for the opposing secondary. Hot Springs has a number of talented players at the skill positions and the opportunity is there for the Trojans to be a dangerous team in 2021.
[player_tooltip player_id="152021" first="Logan" last="Comstock"]-Tight End-2022
Comstock is a player that can open up lanes for his teammates. He is an unselfish blocker and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Comstock is an extremely effective player in the passing game. He uses his physical ability to create separation. Comstock is a player that has the potential to have a monster 2021 season.
We will learn more about the Hot Springs Trojans as the offseason rolls along into the hot summer months! A special thanks to coach Darrell Burnett for taking the time to talk with Prep RedZone Arkansas.
