The Class of 2022 is stacked with talent from top to bottom, as these newcomers add to an already special group of seniors. Meet the 20 prospects that made their debuts inside the Top 150 in this latest rankings update.
No. 33: Geremiah Moore Geremiah Moore 5'10" | 190 lbs | ATH Wichita Northwest | 2022 State KS – Wichita Northwest, 5’10”, 190, ATH
Moore was a dynamic playmaker during his junior year for the Grizzlies. He split time under center with Mason Ross Mason Ross 6'3" | 230 lbs | TE Wichita Northwest | 2021 State KS , but Moore added another element to Northwest’s offense with his legs. While at quarterback, Moore threw for 305 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, completing 68% of his passes, and rushed for 961 yards with 12 touchdowns. His time at quarterback is a small sample size, but given a full season, Moore could put up some serious numbers.
No. 48: Zach Atkins Zach Atkins 6'4" | 200 lbs | WR Blue Valley SW | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley Southwest, 6’4”, 200, WR
This wide receiver group is arguably the deepest position in this recruiting class. There are nine inside the Top 50, and four have already committed to Division I programs. Atkins is looking like another wide out that could draw some serious Division I interest. He had a great junior year hauling in 43 receptions for 813 yards and seven scores, and he’s been busy stringing together strong performances at multiple camps so far this summer. He will look to eclipse 1,000 yards during his senior year.
No. 50: Isaac Sheeran Isaac Sheeran 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Andover Central | 2022 State KS – Andover Central, 6’4”, 230, DL
Sheeran will be one of the top defenders returning for the Jaguars this fall. He makes his debut in the rankings rounding off the Top 50 after putting in work in the early portion of camp season. His recruitment has been heating up heading into his senior campaign, picking up offers from Coffeyville Community College, Benedictine College, and William Jewell. Sheeran has also been named one of the team captains for the ’21 season.
No. 55: Kai Kunz Kai Kunz 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Andover Central | 2022 State KS – Andover Central, 6’3”, 190, QB
Kunz follows his fellow Jaguar teammate coming in at 55 in the rankings, and is the 9th ranked quarterback in the class. The signal caller joins Andover Central after previously attending Kapaun Mt. Carmel. The Jaguars are getting a quarterback that is capable of making huge plays. He is great at evading defenders when the pocket collapses, and he has a strong arm to make throws deep down the field. Kunz will play a factor in Central’s chances for a run at the 4A State Championship.
No. 73: Jaden Mayfield Jaden Mayfield 6'2" | 270 lbs | DL Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley West, 6’2”, 270, DL
Defensive line is another position group in this class that has an abundance of gifted players, as there are 18 of them ranked inside the Top 100. Mayfield is one that has flown under the radar, but that should change after this season. The 13th ranked defensive lineman has been improving his game during this offseason and had a good showing while at the KC Varsity Combines in May. The athletic nose guard should make quite a few plays in the trenches this fall.
N0. 91: Aidan Shaffer Aidan Shaffer 6'1" | 270 lbs | DL Mill Valley | 2022 State KS – Mill Valley, 6’1”, 270, DL
This season, Shaffer will be tasked with picking up where Ethan Kremer Ethan Kremer 6'0" | 265 lbs | DL Mill Valley | 2021 State KS left off. The two nose guards were difficult to slow down, as they terrorized interior offensive lineman throughout the 2020 season. He has a similar frame to Kremer, and he plays with the same aggression as well. As a senior, Shaffer will have all eyes on him, as he’ll look to increase his production from his junior year.
No. 101: Evan Cantu Evan Cantu 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Maize South | 2022 State KS – Maize South, 5’10”, 195, RB
Cantu heads into his senior campaign as the lead horse out of the Mavericks’ backfield. Recruiters need to have this power back on their radar this season. His strength continues to increase, as he ended his junior year benching over 315 pounds, squatting over 495 pounds, and hitting over 315 pounds on hang clean. With a full season starting, Cantu has the chance to be one of the best backs in the 5A Division.
No. 109: Aidan Morgan Aidan Morgan 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley Southwest, 6’2”, 220, LB
More programs need to be recruiting Morgan. The young man has a frame ready for the collegiate level, and he posses the necessary intangibles to succeed. He is a sure tackler that can lay the wood and clog interior gaps in the run game. Morgan excels at fighting off blocks, and can quickly read pulling offensive linemen. Do not be surprised to see Morgan’s name amongst the top tacklers in 5A this season.
No. 112: Ty Farrington Ty Farrington 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley North, 5’11”, 200, LB
Farrington is another backer out of the Blue Valley area to keep an eye on. In 2020, he was a 6A All-State Honorable Mention selection for his near 80 tackle junior season. His wrestling background gives him an edge, as he is consistent at getting his pad level low and shooting towards the ball carriers’ legs. A few Division II programs have had Farrington on their radar, and he should continue to draw interest throughout this fall.
No. 115: Andrew O’Doherty Andrew O’Doherty 5'11" | 200 lbs | LB Pittsburg | 2022 State KS – Pittsburg, 5’10”, 195, LB
If recruiters are looking for hidden gems at linebacker, they need to give O’Doherty a call. He had a great junior season, taking home 1st Team SEK All-Area honors. O’Doherty amassed over 100 total tackles, five being for a loss with three sacks and one forced fumble as a junior. He is a backer that plays sideline-to-sideline and possess good awareness in coverage. Not only does he get the job done on the field, he also standouts in the classroom, carrying a 4.0 GPA.
No. 116: Colby Klieman Colby Klieman 5'8" | 165 lbs | DB Manhattan | 2022 State KS – Manhattan, 5’8”, 165, DB
Making his debut at 116 in the rankings is an up-and-coming safety that is primed for a standout year. Klieman may be a bit undersized, but he does everything a coach could want from their safety. As a junior he piled up 54 total tackles with six pass breakups and one pick-six. He takes the right angles when coming down against the run, and he is quick to break on passes. Klieman could see his role on defense expand this year, similar to Ty’Zhaun Jackson Ty’Zhaun Jackson 5'8" | 165 lbs | ATH Manhattan | 2021 State KS ’s this past season.
No. 118: Quincy Thomas Quincy Thomas 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Cheney | 2022 State KS – Cheney, 6’0”, 175, RB
Cheney had one of the most explosive offenses in the 3A Division this past season, and their star running back was a reason for that. Thomas helped the Cardinals roll through the competition last year. He is a patient runner that can make multiple defenders miss and run through them if need be. Thomas is also a legitimate threat as a receiving back. He and Harrison Voth Harrison Voth 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Cheney | 2022 State KS make them serious contenders for the 3A State Title this year.
No. 127: Roy Moroni Roy Moroni 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Hays | 2022 State KS – Hays, 5’10”, 200, RB
Kanak will bring a lot of attention to Hays, but this gives Moroni a golden opportunity to put recruiters on notice. He is a powerful runner that can either make a defender miss or blow past them with his speed. Moroni has already been impressing during Hays’ team camp, and he has picked up a few offers heading into his senior year. He is ready to run wild this season.
No. 128: Kinser Newquist Kinser Newquist 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Hutchison | 2022 State KS – Hutchison, 5’10”, 165, DB
From being on the Class of ’22 Watch List, to making it into the rankings. Newquist makes his debut in this update at 128 and is the 14th ranked defensive back in the class. He put together a great junior campaign, earning 1st Team AVCTL Division I All-League honors. Expect for him to be a candidate to make the 5A All-State Team his senior year.
No. 134: Logan Losey Logan Losey 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Salina Central | 2022 State KS – Salina Central, 5’9”, 170, WR
Losey could see his production increase significantly during his senior year. The Mustangs like to air it out, and Losey’s game fits this style. He made several plays as a junior, leading to a 2nd Team AVCTL Division II All-League selection. Losey primarily lines up in the slot and makes tough catches over the middle of the field. He runs sharp routes and is a sound blocker as well.
No. 137: MJ Overstreet MJ Overstreet 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State KS – St. Thomas Aquinas, 5’11”, 195, ATH
It will be interesting to see where the Saints’ coaching staff chooses to put Overstreet this fall. He was a top performer while attending the KC Varsity Combines and has since picked up two NAIA offers. Offensively, he’s a bruising runner and a capable receiving threat out of the backfield. Defensively, he is a run stuffing outside linebacker. He should see more offers come his way as he acquires more film this season.
No. 143: Reed Adelhardt Reed Adelhardt 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Garden Plain | 2022 State KS – Garden Plain, 6’0”, 190, ATH
If recruiters are looking for a physical prospect that plays with some nastiness, then Adelhardt is their guy. During his junior year, Reed rushed for over 1,100 yards, averaging 7.7 yards a carry, and scored 15 touchdowns. He did well on defense too, piling up 67 total tackles with three sacks and one interception. Adelhardt could potentially make a run at Player of the Year in the 2A Division this fall.
No. 148: Matt Rudy Matt Rudy 6'5" | 230 lbs | DL Andover | 2022 State KS – Andover, 6’2”, 225, DL
Andover had one of the top defenses in the state last season, allowing only 13 points per game. They return a key piece to their defensive line with Rudy preparing for his senior year. Rudy has multiple moves at his disposal to get into the backfield, and he is relentless at pursuing ball carriers. The Trojans could move him around this season to utilize his versatility on the defensive line, creating favorable matchups for Rudy.
No. 149: Levi Knoll Levi Knoll 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Holcomb | 2022 State KS – Holcomb, 5’10”, 180, ATH
Knoll is a player that shouldn’t be slept on during the ’21 season. He was an intricate piece to Holcomb’s success last season, and he’ll be just as important this year. Knoll was a 1st Team All-League receiver as a junior, and he should be in line for another selection this season. For now, he holds one offer from Garden City CC. But if he can continue to perform like he did in 2020, then he should start seeing more offers.
No. 150: Dion Sylvester Dion Sylvester 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Parsons | 2022 State KS – Parsons, 5’10”, 160, WR
Sylvester is another talented small-town receiver in this class. With Tanner Barcus Tanner Barcus 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Parsons | 2021 State KS graduating, Dion should become the Vikings’ top pass catcher during the ’21 season. As a junior, he averaged a little over 70 yards per game and found the end zone seven times. He is great at getting yards after the catch, and he is a route running technician. Expect a huge senior year from him.
