Continue ReadingIt was a warm late afternoon in Yager stadium on the campus of Miami of Ohio. The ThermoPro was out, and reading around 90 degrees. The warm weather didn’t dampen the mood of the campers, however, as a great time was had by all. In this article I’ll highlight a few Ohio athletes that caught my eye during the 3 hour session.
2022 QB Logan Huber Roger Bacon HS- I first saw Logan live in the state semifinals versus Ironton and what I saw at camp was more of the same. Huber is an athletic 6’3 with room to fill out. He has a live arm and does a good job with his ball placement. He stands tall and makes his throws with confidence. Logan told me that he’s getting interest from the D2-D3 levels. I like Logan as a spread QB in a west coast style offense that challenges defenses horizontally and takes shots vertically.
2022 WR Markez Gillam of Reynoldsburg HS- The letter D sums him up, diminutive (5’6) and dynamic. Watching Markez do cone drills you can see the precision footwork and explosive qualities he possesses. Later when they went to the 1 v 1 period, he then combined that token explosiveness to his blazing speed. He proved to be slippery in his routes and then kicked it into another gear once he got the ball in his hands. Markez is starting to garner attention on the D2 scene where he has offers from Ohio Dominican and the University of Findlay. I have no doubt he is going to give defensive coordinators fits.
2022 WR Ray Greene Wayne HS (Huber Heights) 5’9 165- Ray Green is an explosive athlete that I view as a Swiss Army Knife. He’s a kid who I think you’ll be able to line up in the back field or out on the slot. He has excellent hands and the explosiveness to shake defensive backs with ease. You could see the frustration on the DB’s faces as they tried to cover Greene. I like Ray at the D1 Mid-Major or high D2 level at the next level.
2022 DB Corwyn Hurt Corwyn Hurt 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Miamisburg Highschool | 2022 OH Miamisburg HS- I think Corwyn could play either free or strong safety safety at the college level. He has a thick build and likes contact like that of a strong safety, but has the ball skills to play the free position. Hurt understands angles and playing in space. He has really strong ball skills and is good at playing the ball rather than the man.
2023 Dalton Davis Fairfield HS- Dalton Davis is a 6’3 290 pound junior to be. He has a good punch and has the feet and athleticism to move and pull as needed. I project Dalton as a guard at the college level. I like him in a zone run scheme. As he continues to get stronger I really like his upside and will definitely be following him.
