Even though we are experiencing the shortest offseason in recent history, there are still players transferring to find the perfect school for them.
A handful of intriguing quarterback prospects have changed schools in the past month. Here is a list of some of the signal-callers who will be wearing different uniforms this fall.
The biggest name to transfer this offseason is [player_tooltip player_id="2472" first="Samuel" last="Cooper"]. The class of 2023 star is moving from Lincoln to University City. I got word about a month ago that Cooper was leaving Lincoln but at the time he was expected to go to Patrick Henry. Cooper was a two-year starter at Lincoln and was one of many talented skill players for the Hornets. University City went 1-3 during the short spring season.

Another class of 2023 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="25366" first="Aidan" last="Chiles"] transferred from Los Alamitos to Downey. It’s a smart move for Chiles who was never going to get playing time at Los Alamitos with [player_tooltip player_id="25419" first="Malachi" last="Nelson"] in front of him. Downey is a solid program who played a senior quarterback this spring. Chiles was good in limited action for the Griffins this spring, completing 9 of 11 passes for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He is a real dual threat quarterback who the Downey coaching staff will have fun designing an offense around.

Class of 2023 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="145174" first="Paul" last="Kessler"] is on the move again, this time from Alemany to Venice. Kessler was behind class of 2022 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="141912" first="Dylan" last="Gebbia"] at Alemany and will get more opportunities at Venice. He has offers from Georgia, Kansas, North Texas and Tennessee, all of which he got in 2020 when he was at Oaks Christian.

Tobey Schmidt is a sleeper prospect who is now at Tustin after spending his spring season at Maranatha. Schmidt was the backup at Mater Dei for Bryce Young as a sophomore and led the Monarchs to a Battle at the Beach championship, the biggest passing tournament in Southern California. He was solid for Maranatha with seven touchdowns in three games. He will add a much-needed passing attack to Tustin’s offense and is the best quarterback the Tillers have had in recent memory.

The only Trinity League quarterback transfer this offseason of note was [player_tooltip player_id="25428" first="Jaxon" last="Potter"] moving from JSerra to Santa Margarita. It’s a good move for all parties involved. Santa Margarita was the most improved program in the league this spring and had to replace reclassified quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="25193" first="Colt" last="Fulton"]. JSerra is a rebuilding program and has class of 2024 quarterback Dylan Mills who has been getting some buzz. Potter will slide in and play at Santa Margarita right away with the Eagles not missing a beat.

Mater Dei’s backup quarterback Parker Awad transferred from the Monarchs to Edison (Huntington Beach). Awad will have to compete for the starting job with returner [player_tooltip player_id="43679" first="Tyler" last="Gioia"]. Gioia is very athletic and got some reps at receiver last season too so the Chargers could find a way to get both players a lot of playing time. Gioia transferred to Edison from Servite last year. Awad appeared in three games for the Monarchs in garbage time but has arm talent. It will be interesting to see him and Gioia at the Battle at the Beach this weekend.
