Breaking down Mater Dei’s 2024 class (part 2)

Recently, Prep Redzone updated its<a href="https://prepredzone.com/california/rankings/2024-rankings/"> class of 2024 rankings</a>. Typically, I breakdown the rankings by county. But in this case, Orange County is so full of players from Mater Dei (Santa Ana) that I’m going to dedicate two whole stories to Mater Dei players. Here is <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2021/06/breaking-down-mater-deis-2024-class-part-1/">part one</a> of the breakdown of Mater Dei’s 2024 class. [player_tooltip player_id="147719" first="DeAndre" last="Carter"] may be the next Power 5 left tackle from Mater Dei. He is 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds and started at left tackle against St. John Bosco. His footwork is incredible for a freshman of his size and I think he is ranked too low on the list. Monarch’s coach Bruce Rollinson is very high on Carter and so is the entire coaching staff. He has offers from Cal, Oregon State and USC. Another short and speedy running back is on the horizon at Mater Dei and it’s [player_tooltip player_id="115462" first="Ajon" last="Bryant"]. Bryant is 5-foot-7 and shifty and makes plays out of the backfield in Pylon 7-on-7 videos. He may get some opportunities this fall as a secondary back behind [player_tooltip player_id="25225" first="Raleek" last="Brown"]. He had two touchdowns as a freshman in the spring. https://twitter.com/C_Morrissette/status/1373105920159326208?s=20 Another 6-foot-4 and near 300 pound freshman lineman is at Mater Dei in [player_tooltip player_id="147730" first="Brandon" last="Baker"]. He was a dominant interior lineman on the lower levels, particularly in the running game and has the athleticism to pull. He should get some playing time this fall on varsity but if not, he will be a force as a junior with another year in the weight room. He has offers from Fresno State and Michigan. <span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="115444" first="Leehanu" last="Atuatasi"] is a guard who was on the freshman team at Mater Dei last season. Not a lot of film on him but he has strength for a freshman and has solid footwork when pulling. Mater Dei has an incredible offensive line in the 2024 class.</span> The last skill player on the rankings is defensive back/running back [player_tooltip player_id="115430" first="Stephen" last="Lendsey"]. He is a just a really good athlete who can slide in the Monarch’s secondary and hold his own in multiple coverages.
