Every camp had top-tier prospects competing against other top-tier prospects which made the All-Ohio Showcase Finals at Toledo Whitmer High School this past Sunday an even better event. Over the next few days we will break down the top performers from the camp and today we will start with the quarterbacks.
Cameron Swiger Cameron Swiger 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB St. Francis DeSales | 2023 State OH out of Anthony Wayne High School, 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, 2023
Even though the rankings do not reflect it right now you could make a very strong case that Swiger is Ohio’s top quarterback in 2023. Matter of fact, I believe after seeing a handful of the other top quarterbacks in Ohio that he is the best for 2023. Everything that he does from the quarterback position looks effortless and natural for him. The ball jumps off his hand every pass and he has the arm talent to make almost every throw on the field. Additionally, Swiger has the mobility and athleticism that colleges covet nowadays from their quarterbacks. When it comes to traits, talent, and mentality he has it all and he should have a handful of offers come July.
Tyler Tusai out of Padua Franciscan High School, 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, 2024
Alright, so Tusai has yet to start a varsity football game in Ohio but when it comes to talent and upside the case can be made that he is one of Ohio’s best. When talking about quarterbacks you have to look at natural arm talent and Tusai has some of the best natural arm talent in Ohio regardless of class. He can make every throw on the field from anywhere on it. On top of that, His accuracy and touch are continuing to get better which is what you want to see from a soon-to-be sophomore. And there is also still plenty of room for Tusai to get better which makes him an even more fascinating prospect. Overall, he opened some eyes with his performance at Whitmer on Sunday and it will be interesting to see how he looks this fall.
Kaden Holmes Kaden Holmes 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Fremont Ross | 2023 State OH out of Fremont Ross High School, 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, 2023
Right off the cuff, some may knock Holmes because of his size and those concerns are valid. However, after you watch him throw those concerns go away. The ball is always where it needs to be with Holmes and his touch is top-notch. The arm strength could be better but that can improve at the college level. Nevertheless, Holmes makes plays on the football team and helps his team win games. With college systems becoming more about timing and precision every play Holmes is someone a lot of colleges should take a close look at. On top of that the intangible things he also is very experienced after starting for Fremont Ross last year and he still has two years in front of him, remember the name.
Ethan Fritz out of Brunswick High School, 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, 2022
The lone soon-to-be senior that cracked my list of top quarterbacks was Brunswick’s, Ethan Fritz. He has good size and very good traits which makes it interesting as to why he hasn’t seen much in the terms of his recruitment. As for his performance Sunday he was probably the most consistent passer aside from Swiger. From talking to other evaluators in attendance they really liked what they saw out of Fritz when it came to timing and accuracy. After getting a lot of varsity experiences last fall at Brunswick he should put up even better numbers this fall in Northeast Ohio. Colleges still looking for a 2022 quarterback should be doing their homework on Fritz.
