As many colleges have closed for the next three weeks to recover from a very busy period, we take a look back at the final weekend of the summer camp series. As parents, fans, coaches and athletes made their way to Coral Gables this past Saturday night, the long-awaited month of June started to come to an end – as the 14 plus months of the “NCAA Dark Period” was over, and for 26 days, colleges hosted thousands of high school football prospects. Making up for two consecutive springs without any college exposure at all, the high school talent made the most of every opportunity – with some programs going out on the road for as many as two weeks, visiting college campuses of all sizes. With the University of Miami once again hosting Paradise Camp, attracting athletes from all over the country was certainly something that the Hurricanes have been able to do, especially when UM icons like Michael Irvin, Lamar Thomas, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Edgerrin James, Calais Campbell, David Njoku, Dolphins’ rookie Jaelen Phillips and Gregory Rousseau were on campus. From Nevada, Minnesota, Texas and all over the state of Florida, hundreds flocked to the “U” as this event has now become a national showcase – with so much focus on the campus. Prospects who the Hurricanes hope to land as part of the 2022 class as well as those impressive 2023 prospects were on hand – and while the rain cut into some of the evening’s festivities, it didn’t dampen any of the performances. FIVE ATHLETES WHO TURNED HEADS With so much talent spread around the football complex, watching every player perform in every drill was not possible, but there were five who caught the eye of just about everyone who attended. 2023 – [player_tooltip player_id="128012" first="Kaven" last="Call"], DE, Apopka. Over the past year, we have watched this impressive talent perform, and watching him during the camp season only showed everyone that this is a gifted talent, who is quick, strong, athletic and will often win those 1-on-1 battles. When you can impress as a 10th grader and continue to improve, colleges will watch you – and Manny Diaz and the Hurricanes will certainly check this young man out often. TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/12776165/Kaven-Call 2022 – David Connor, OL, Deerfield Beach. The newest member of head coach Jevon Glenn’s Bucks’ football program, this Lithonia, Ga. transfer has already established himself as a lineman to watch, and the University of Miami, he grabbed the attention of coaches and the media on hand – quickly, dominating drills, showing his skill level, athleticism and overall technique. At 6-6, 280-pounds, he showed why he will be a heavily-watched offensive tackle, who will only add to the amazing talent this program already has. TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/15197118/David-Conner 2023 – [player_tooltip player_id="128027" first="Wilky" last="Denaud"], DE, Fort Pierce John Carroll. Heading into his third year as a starter, there are still some who are just finding out about this impressive talent, who continues to showcase his strength, quickness, overall athleticism and his dominance in the drills and 1-on-1 events. He is quick off the ball and is extremely smart, picking things up right away. Every college coach who has watched him this summer was blown away by everything he brings to the table – even the UM coaches, who will have two full years to watch this talent. TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/13039240/Wilky-Denaud 2023 – [player_tooltip player_id="128030" first="Andy" last="Jean"], WR, Miami Northwestern. When recent article came out talking about the amazing receivers in the 2023 class, here is a prospect that several had talked about as being a true “sleeper” in a group that is simply loaded with Power 5 prospects. On Saturday, those who had never watched this quality talent perform, saw someone who is among the best not only in Florida, but his hands, speed, route running and ability to take over a game will make him easily one of the most coveted playmakers in the country. He is the real deal! TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/13275516/Andy-Jean 2023 – [player_tooltip player_id="128528" first="Jeremiah" last="Shack"], WR, Jacksonville Mandarin. Here is yet another gifted football talent that we had talked about and rated four months ago, watching him perform and seeing his 6-3, 205-pound frame. Seeing him at Paradise Camp only confirmed what we felt many months ago, discovering new talent across the Sunshine State. This is a talented young man who does it all – and that is exactly what he did on Saturday – in front of some important decision makers! TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/14476467/Jeremiah-Shack You Can Contact [player_tooltip player_id="111610" first="Larry" last="Blustein"] with prospect or team information at: Floridakids1@aol.com.
