Without a doubt, quarterback is the most important position in football. But for as critical as having a good signal-caller is, somebody has to catch the passes. The Class of 2024 has a rapidly-rising receiver group who are capable of catching those passes. These are young players who have the potential to become stars. Today, we will take a look at the three receivers who are currently in our Class of 2024 prospect index. All three are ready to make massive strides this season. [player_tooltip player_id="109618" first="Braunte" last="Johnson"], 6’3, 170 pounds, Northside [player_tooltip player_id="109618" first="Braunte" last="Johnson"] is an electrifying playmaker for the Northside Legends. He runs his routes very well. Johnson knows how to play against the coverage that he is going against and he has the ability to get open. Johnson is very dependable for a quarterback, not just because of the fact that he consistently gets open, but he is also a sure-handed receiver. Johnson can also make plays after the catch as he can break tackles and make defenders miss. [player_tooltip player_id="109618" first="Braunte" last="Johnson"] finds other ways to help his team as well. Johnson is a serious threat on kickoff returns. He has tremendous speed and will make opponents pay for kicking to him. Johnson can also be a threat in the run game. He does well with end-arounds and jet sweeps and then he can show his playmaking ability and athleticism after he gets the ball in his hands. [player_tooltip player_id="109630" first="Brinn" last="Robbins"], 5’10, 160 pounds, Lafayette Central Catholic [player_tooltip player_id="109630" first="Brinn" last="Robbins"] is a great all-around receiver and a major problem for defenses. Robbins does a good job running a wide-variety of routes. He does well running underneath routes as well as testing the secondary vertically. One of the most impressive aspects to Robbins’ game is his ability to locate the football and come up with the catch. He can make contested catches and win a 50-50 ball over a defender. Robbins adjusts his body well to make the catch. If the throw is too low or too high, he can still make the catch. [player_tooltip player_id="109612" first="Drake" last="Stevens"], 6’3, 175 pounds, Shenandoah [player_tooltip player_id="109612" first="Drake" last="Stevens"] is a very strong receiver that will create matchup problems for any defense. Stevens works well in the short and intermediate passing game. Stevens knows where to be to get open. He can use his body to block out whoever is attempting to cover him. Stevens can also be difficult to tackle. [player_tooltip player_id="109612" first="Drake" last="Stevens"] has so many great physical tools. He has very reliable hands and can be somebody a quarterback can trust to pickup first downs. Each of these five student-athletes have a lot of potential. That fact, when you take into consideration how talented they already are, that should be more than enough to attract plenty of interest from college recruiting staffs. All three of these players have the skillset necessary to give a major boost to any program. These three prospects can make an offensive coordinator’s life a lot easier and they can give a defensive coordinator headaches. These outstanding players are on the cusp of big things this season, and beyond.
