Enjoy! Here in the month of June we’re updating all of our prospect rankings as the 2021 season gets closer and closer. For the 2022 class, we went from a Top 100 to a Top 150 as this class continues to get deeper and deeper. The margin between the ranked players is very close and this class looks to have great depth from top to bottom. You can check out the Top 150 Right Here. Throughout the week, we’ll be adding some analysis on the players that have stood out in the 2022 class with positional breakdowns, newcomers, and even prospects on the border of being ranked this time around. For now, we take an in-depth look at five quarterbacks who stood out to us during the last update. [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] - Lincoln Christian (#3 QB - #47 Overall) After battling for and earning the starting spot for Lincoln Christian early in the 2020 season, Max enjoyed one of the best breakout seasons in Oklahoma and comes into 2021 as one of the top QBs in the state. He relied more on his athleticism and raw ability to begin the year but improved tremendously as the season went on and began to be a more pure passer and true QB as he became more comfortable in the Lincoln Christian offense. By the end of the year, Brown helped lead his team to the state title game where they came up just short against Holland Hall. Since then, Max has gotten a few offers from the likes of Central Michigan and Houston Baptist, which adds him to the short list of Oklahoma QBs to receive a division 1 offer. Even though he will be without his top pass catcher last years team, Pitt State signee [player_tooltip player_id="38543" first="Kolbe" last="Katsis"], Max will not be short on talent heading into the fall as Lincoln still returns a handful of skill position starters and has a few up and coming players such as [player_tooltip player_id="157518" first="Cam" last="Dooley"] that will make life much easier for him. [player_tooltip player_id="61144" first="Scott" last="Pfieffer"] - Edmond Santa Fe (#4 QB - #50 Overall) [player_tooltip player_id="61144" first="Scott" last="Pfieffer"] was one of the most highly anticipated first-year starters heading into 2020, at least for us, because we saw the talent he possessed in the few reps he had in 2019 and because he inherited a Santa Fe offense that was stacked from top to bottom. After getting off to a shaky start to the season, Pfieffer and the wolves turned the corner in a hurry and got on a hot streak that took them all the way to the state championship where they came up short to Jenks in a game that was never really close. Though Pfieffer struggled at times in that game when matched up against the studs that Jenks rolled out, we are confident that Scott has grown and matured a lot physically and mentally after seeing him at team camp along with seeing his results from the elite 11 regionals in Dallas where he tied for the 2nd highest score in the pro day drills while competing against the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="108886" first="Gavin" last="Frakes"], [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"], and a few of the top QBs from Texas, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey, and a few other states. Without the tandem of [player_tooltip player_id="61222" first="Micah" last="Snoddy"] and [player_tooltip player_id="38657" first="Ethane" last="Hyche"] to carry the ball 40+ times a game as they did in 2020, it is likely that Santa Fe will throw the ball a bit more in 2021 and we are confident that Scott will be up for an increased workload and will have a chance to solidify himself as a division one QB. [player_tooltip player_id="101412" first="Kane" last="Donovan"] - Carl Albert (#6 QB - #71 Overall) Kane Donvan came into last season as a virtual unknown but finished 2020 as one of our favorite players at the position. Kane played similarly to [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] to start the year with his athleticism and raw physical traits but also finished the year strong as it was evident that he was reading the field much easier and was reacting to what he was seeing rather than trying to predict where the plays would hit and where defenders in the secondary would be. Kane has also continued to improve this off-season at 7v7 tournaments where he played with the Young Achievers Youth Organization, and at other camps across the state such as the Wes Welker Foundation 7on7 camp where he received MVP honors a few weeks ago. Additionally, Donovan recently earned his first offer from D2 Missouri S&T. With another year to show what he can do, it would not be surprising to see him collect a few more offers and take the next step at the position to compete with a few of the names above him by the time we finish our final evaluations on the class of 2022 in January. [player_tooltip player_id="52273" first="Ben" last="Harman"] - Cashion (#10 QB - #133 Overall) After having one of the most productive seasons at the position in 2020, it is scary to think that Harman might be even better in 2021. After seeing him in team camp it is obvious that he has been working hard this offseason to become more comfortable with his reads and progressions in the Cashion offense. We think it’s safe to say that he has gotten about as close as you can get to mastering their system as nothing seemed to surprise or overwhelm him in the small sample size we saw from him against Cushing earlier this month. Although they will have to replace quite a few key contributors from 2020’s explosive offense, Cashion will return [player_tooltip player_id="53312" first="Mason" last="Manning"] and a few other high-quality skill players that will help Harman as they could very easily be passing the ball much more in 2021. [player_tooltip player_id="119092" first="Gunnar" last="Thrash"] - Perkins-Tryon (#11 QB - #133 Overall) Our last QB on this list is the only one that will enter 2021 as a first-year starter but is also one that we are very confident in after seeing him compete at a very high level for Sooner7 the past couple of springs. While Thrash does not have the D1 ready size that a few of the top QBs in this class have, he has one of the quickest & cleanest releases in the class and has also demonstrated some top-level accuracy to all levels of the field at times. Throughout this spring when we saw him in person with Sooner7 and on film after spring ball, it was clear that Gunnar is ready for the big stage on Friday nights. He was rarely flustered and had streaks where he simply could not miss a throw regardless of who he was throwing to or how many defenders were in the area he was attacking. Don’t be shocked if Thrash adds his name to the list of QBs with offers by the end of next season if he plays to his full potential.
