The Players Corner-Bryson Martin, QB- Clearwater Central Catholic
In this article:
The Players corner is a series where I get to sit down and interview prospects in the Bay Area. It’s a fun way to get to know some of these players outside of just evaluating them. We at Prep Redzone Florida want to bring you all-access into these players, it’s important to get to know them as individuals and what makes them great on the field! This series will give you the ability to get under the helmet and see what makes these prospects click and gives you behind the scenes coverage. Bryson Martin Bryson Martin 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Crestview | 2023 FL is a very good quarterback prospect and will be one of the better quarterback prospects in the Tampa Bay area this season and looks to lead CCC to a run at the state championship. After scouting Martin, I realized quickly he has everything your looking for in a QB prospect for the next level. He has good size, athleticism, good accuracy (64% completion percentage), intangibles and arm strength.

Talk about your junior season. How did it go and what did you learn from it? What were some challenges you encountered and how did you overcome it?
My junior season started slow but ended up great. I transferred to CCC after a coaching change at Plant. COVID happened, and everything related to football stopped. Once the season began, I didn’t get the starting job, and I was really disappointed. I just stayed positive, kept working, and even convinced my coach to let me play receiver when I wasn’t getting reps. I got an opportunity at QB late in the 4th quarter of game six. I threw a game-winning TD with about 30 seconds on the clock and kept the job from that point forward. That experience taught me to never give up on myself.
What have you been doing this off-season and specifically what have you been doing to prepare for your upcoming senior year?
I have been working on getting bigger and faster by lifting with my team at CCC. This has also been a great time to get to know my teammates better. I have QB training 2-3 times a week and review game film once a week. I also fish and hunt anytime that I can, which helps me stay balanced.
Who is your biggest role model and guide in your life?
I have two, my dad and Coach Robert Weiner. My dad is the most talented person that I know. He seems to be able to accomplish anything that he puts his mind to and is always positive. He always believes in me, and he customizes all of my equipment which is pretty sweet. Coach Weiner is just a fantastic person who also happens to be an excellent football coach. During my time at Plant, he demanded a lot from everyone (especially the QBs), but he always led by example. He is a great leader.
Biggest strengths in your game currently? Areas of your game you’re trying to improve on this spring?
My biggest strength is being able to stay calm in the pocket and make throws under pressure. I’m also really accurate on the run and can throw from different arm angles. I feel like I am underestimated as a runner. The biggest thing that I’m trying to improve is my release and getting the ball out quicker.
What colleges have looked at you in terms of interest and offers in particular as a rising senior?
I have an offer from Toledo and have interest from several schools. Most of them want to see me throw this summer. Buffalo, Cincinnati, Colorado, Colorado State, Duke, FIU, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Liberty, and Southern Mississippi.
Talk about what it’s like to play for Coach Harvey, and what your most excited about with this year’s CCC team?
I really like Coach Harvey. He is a great coach who is always open and honest with me. He expects everyone to do well on and off the field. You can tell that he wants the best for each of us. He played for the best college team in history, so he knows what it takes to be great. This year’s squad is loaded. We have many good players returning and some new guys that are bringing a lot of energy. I’m excited about what we can do.
What do you love most about playing football? What player do you model your game after?
I love everything about football: the preparation, the competition, and the brotherhood between teammates. I have made so many good friends in my life from football. It is crazy how many people I know at home and other places all from football. I love seeing my friends succeed and do well. It is so cool to turn on the TV and see people you played with or competed against.
Not sure if I model my game after any one person. I do love the way Patrick Mahomes plays. He makes crazy throws look easy, and he is a tough competitor that never quits. I also like Taysom Hill because he is so versatile and is always having fun.
Personally, what is your ultimate goal with the game of football whether it be on the field or off of it?
I just want to be a good friend and teammate. I’d love to win State this year. After that, who knows? I want to play at a high level in college, and hopefully, I’ll get to do that with some of my friends from Tampa. I’ll play football until someone tells me that I can’t anymore. After football, I would like to run my own business and maybe be a fishing guide on the side.
