Just about every major Power 5 school will look to the peach state to find a running back, and more often than not, they’re going to find one who can carry the load at the next level. There are multiple D1 running backs from Georgia in the 2022 class, but more and more are popping up in the 2023 class as well. That group is led by Blessed Trinity star running back Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA , arguably the top overall running back in the entire state. He’s easily the leader of the pack in 2023, but there are a few others looking to have a breakout junior season this fall.
Here are a few 2023 running backs to know about for the upcoming season…
Peyton Streko – West Forsyth
After losing last year’s starting running back Daba Fofana to graduation, the Wolverines are going to be looking for another versatile back to try and help lead them to another region title this fall. Junior Peyton Streko could be their answer after rushing for over 300 yards in a reserve role last year for Forsyth Central. He’s a strong, versatile back at 5-foot-10 185-pounds who will likely earn the starting job right off the bat this fall. He’s got experience, he’s a good runner, and he’ll fit into the Wolverine offense easily. He runs well between the tackles and can break tackles with ease once he gets through the line of scrimmage. In his new role, look for Streko to get a lot of opportunities to make plays this fall. He’s expected to be one of the top rushers in the region as a junior this upcoming season.
Lang Windham – Rabun County
If there’s one “under the radar” back to know about in the North Georgia mountains, it’s Windham. He may have zero offers right now, but that’s strictly due to his size. At only 5-foot-9 150-pounds, Windham is a smaller back but he plays much bigger than his size. So while he may be a little smaller, you can’t overlook his productivity. The rising junior is coming off an excellent sophomore season where he rushed for 1,378 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. While 5-star QB Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA is the real star at Rabun County, he’s able to play well because he has a reliable weapon next to him in Windham. He’s quick, shifty, and a major weapon in the passing game. He gets up-field in a hurry and can be dangerous in the open field due to his sudden quickness and ability to change direction. Look for his numbers to be even better as a junior.
DJ Rogers – Pepperell
Looking for another super-athletic running back? Rogers is your guy. He’s not a very big back at 5-foot-8 165-pounds, but he’s a quick, electric back who can also play cornerback on defense. As a back, he’s shifty, has great balance, and knows how to take it the distance on any particular carry. He’s coming off an outstanding sophomore season for the Dragons where he rushed for 1,255 yards on 130 carries (9.7 ypc) and 18 touchdowns. He was always one of the fastest and most explosive players on the field, and he was just a sophomore. He’s bound for another monster season as a junior, and if he can continue adding some weight and muscle, Rogers could see some college interest start to come his way.
