The defensive back position group has possibly been the busiest of all as the spring season has come and gone. Movement among players initially ranked in the top 10 has taken place as well as numerous athletes making their initial appearance in the rankings this spring.
One constant at the position from early on has been [player_tooltip player_id="104526" first="Khamauri" last="Rogers"] who continues to hold the top ranked DB position. Rogers has recently cut his list to a "Top 6" headlined by in-state schools, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, in addition to SEC counterparts Texas A&M and Tennessee, Miami and Notre Dame have also made the cut. Rogers has potential to step into a defensive back room next year and contribute day 1 due to his athletic ability.
[player_tooltip player_id="104528" first="Jaterrious" last="Elam"] of Greenville Christian is in a similar position as Rogers, with the only real difference being he has pulled the trigger on a commitment to Mississippi State. Elam has size to play either the cornerback or safety position and will be a great addition to the back end of the defense for Coach Mike Leach. Elam continues to have a hold on the 2nd ranked defensive back position in this update.
New names start to appear with the 3rd ranked position and that is held by [player_tooltip player_id="113272" first="Wesley" last="Miller"]. Miller has burst onto the scene in the last few months due to his speed and loose frame. Miller is sized to be a Power 5 level cornerback and has loads of untapped potential. 12 offers, most from Power 5 programs, have appeared for the Heritage Academy rising senior in the last few months and prompted Miller to commit to Mississippi State in April.
Rounding out the Top 5 are more new additions in [player_tooltip player_id="139770" first="Jordan" last="Anthony"] and [player_tooltip player_id="139771" first="Malcolm" last="Hartzog"], both of which have had huge spring seasons. Anthony is a dynamic athlete with potential to contribute in multiple areas who currently holds an in-state offer from Ole Miss in addition to more Power 5 level offers. Hartzog, too, shows an offer from Ole Miss and looks to be the next athlete in from talent rich Jefferson Davis county.
The DB group is crowded but keep your eyes on Ja’Marlin Green and [player_tooltip player_id="104537" first="Kezerrin" last="Wash"] as the summer nears and fall is on the horizon. Both Green and Wash have offers but have potential to really blow up over the coming months.
As always, keep an eye on our PrepRedzone rankings to keep up to date with all the latest.
