There is no doubt that some of the best overall athleticism in the state doesn’t necessarily have a position to call home at the given time. Guys on this list will most definitely be welcomed onto college campuses in the next year and will begin to associate more with specific positions.
The top three spots on the list remain in tact with [player_tooltip player_id="104545" first="Marquez" last="Dortch"] at the number 1 spot. Dortch has been committed to Ole Miss since January and has an offer list that shows plenty of SEC flavor. Dortch continues to project with limitless potential most likely in the defensive secondary, although we still believe there is at least a small chance of him contributing as a skill player on offense. Loose athleticism radiates from Dortch.
[player_tooltip player_id="104546" first="Jerry" last="Johnson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="104547" first="Dakota" last="Jordan"], both of the Jackson area, maintain their number 2 and 3 spots on the list respectively. Johnson has dynamic athletic intangibles which has led to offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss in-state. Projections for Johnson show him at wide receiver which has a very natural feel to it. This is the type of athlete that needs the football in his hands. Jordan, on the other hand, is harder to project. Great opportunities on the offensive side as a RB/slot receiver and on the defensive side at LB are both available. Jordan’s film is dominant at Canton Academy and he is poised for a huge senior season. The two way star (baseball) committed to Mississippi State back in January and would definitely be a huge addition to the program.
The two biggest additions to the list are in the form of [player_tooltip player_id="104552" first="Cameron" last="Knox"] of New Albany and [player_tooltip player_id="113273" first="Johnnie" last="Daniels"] of Crystal Springs. These two guys round out our Spring Top 5 update and both could have breakout senior seasons that lead to more recruiting attention. Knox verbally committed to Southern Miss in late March after seeing numerous offers roll in mid-spring. Prototypical wide receiver size and intangibles pop off the film of Knox who is still very raw. Daniels is another guy to lookout for on both sides of the ball as running back feels like the most natural position feel at the time. As the most undervalued guy on this list currently, Daniels has the potential to blow up on the recruiting front thru the summer and into the fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="104548" first="Chris" last="Bell"] of Yazoo City has seen FBS offers rolling in thru the spring and has shown potential to play boundary wide receiver positions. Bell is another guy who is very raw but has untapped potential. [player_tooltip player_id="104072" first="Trent" last="Singleton"] continues to be a guy garnering alot of attention, but as of this time we are shifting our projection to the QB position for the rising senior of Raymond.
