These five prospects covered three different states, with three actually calling the Lonestar state their home. All five prospects, I believe have a bright future at the next level, some as high as the division one level and some all the way to division two. Here’s who stood out.
ATH: Vance Feuerbacher, 6’, 205, Plano West, TX, 2023
This young man is at his best on called quarterback runs. He shows the patience and acceleration to gash opposing defenses. He’s got good top-end speed and can make you pay on a cutback if you don’t take good angles to the football. He’s shown a knack for finding the endzone in the goaline and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to make something happen. I’ll be waiting on his junior tape, and I think if he shows that can he push the ball vertically downfield, his stock is gonna skyrocket.
DB: Chris Allen, 6’2, 170, Trinity Catholic, FL, 2024
A long, rangy safety prospect that has some experience behind center. Allen reads the quarterback well & can go up and find the football. He shows good movement skills, a high motor, and the willingness to come down & run the alley. He has experience as both a rolled-up and single high safety, making him capable of playing both strong & free safety. Allen is just a freshman but has flashed early at the varsity level. I think if he puts together another impressive season next fall, division one coaches could come calling.
ATH: Ethan Mullins Ethan Mullins 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Wayne | 2022 State OK , 6’, 180, Wayne, OK, 2022
A creative runner who can lull you to sleep before bursting through a seam. Mullins can get you the tough yards inside but also has the speed to create chunk plays on perimeter runs. Arm tacklers stand no chance against this kid as he bulls through them with pure strength. Mullins has the speed to split two defenders and the wiggle to make you miss In the open field. Based on his skill set as a runner and god-given speed & agility, I think he’s either a wide receiver or safety at the next level and will be a pretty darn good one.
QB: Ashton DuBose Ashton DuBose 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB William J. Brennan | 2023 State TX , 6’2, 185, Brennan, TX, 2023
A dual-threat who can truly beat you with both his arm and his legs. Dubose shows great footwork in the pocket and a gift for dropping the deep ball right on the money. He’s lethal on called zone-read runs and is a nightmare to bring down once he breaks into the open field. He can really drive the football on intermediate throws and will calmly step up into the pocket with his eyes downfield against the rush. To me, he should be a division one talent and will be on a lot of schools radars after his junior season.
QB: David Hopkins Jr., 6’2, 205, Mansfield Summit, TX, 2022
This kids recruitment is quite puzzling to me. When you throw on David’s tape, he’s got so many traits you just can’t teach, like pure arm strength and anticipation. Yet, he still doesn’t have a single scholarship offer. To me, he’s a no-brainer division one talent. This is a poised pocket passer who is willing to consistently work through his progression. He’s calm against the rush and throws well on the move when forced to ad-lib. Hopkins also does a phenomenal job transitioning his weight to ensure he can get maximum velocity behind his throws.
