Parents and football fans packed the stands to watch the All-Ohio showcase Friday evening which inspired the players representing Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia to perform at a high level. There was some top talent at the showcase and the quarterback position was one of those top groups.
Jacob Winters Jacob Winters 6'2" | 215 lbs | QB Jackson | 2023 State OH 6’3” 210 Jackson 2023
Winters, one of the top quarterbacks in the state, lived up to expectations at the Ironton showcase. The thick and athletic signal caller has very good arm strength and throws well on the run and across his body. In the seven-on-seven competition he was impressive at rifling the football through small windows to his receivers.
Tayden Carpenter Tayden Carpenter 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Ironton | 2023 State OH 6’0” 200 Ironton 2023
This hometown lefty can really sling the ball and is very athletic as well. Carpenter is very impressive throwing the deep ball. He not only has the arm strength, but also has a great touch on throwing the takeoff and fade routes over the defensive back right on target to his wideouts. Carpenter has all the intangibles coaches look for in a quarterback.
Tajh Bowers 6’2” 200 Columbus Briggs 2022
Bowers drove down from central Ohio to attend the showcase in Ironton, and it paid off. He has good height and overall size as well as pocket presence. Bowers can spin the ball with accuracy with a good over the top release, especially on intermediate routes. He throws a little bit off his back foot on deeper routes but can still put the ball on target. Bowers has the chance to be the premier quarterback in the Columbus City League this fall.
Mitchell Irwin 5’11” 185 Portsmouth Werst 2023
Irwin was one of the best small school quarterbacks at the Ironton showcase Friday night. He threw for over 1500 yards last season and his leadership qualities are exceptional. He throws well from the pocket and when on the move. Irwin has a nice touch with the football but needs to work on overall arm strength when going deep. On film, he stands in the pocket and isn’t afraid to take when releasing the football under pressure.
Van George 6’2” 190 Moeller 2024
When you watch this guy on film and perform in person, you are looking at a future star quarterback for Moeller. George threw nineteen touchdown passes for his freshmen team and is a physical runner with the football. At the showcase, he was one the best quarterbacks in terms of technical skills, arm strength, and accuracy. He has all the tools to be an exceptional high school quarterback.
