While some may know all about the football story of Delray Beach Atlantic, many have no clue why this program has made bigger waves for what happens in their classrooms.
When head coach T.J. Jackson stepped down at the end of the 2020 season, he leaves a legacy that included a 66-16 record, a state championship appearance and last year’s 7A Tri-County title and a 6-1 record.
In addition, Jackson set standards in the classroom, creating one of the best learning environments of any public high school nationally.
But as he moves on and leaves such a positive trail to continue, enter popular coach and mentor Jamael Stewart.
What Stewart has been able to do is maintain what has been working so well for one of the state’s best programs.
In last week’s spring games against Miami Southridge and Miami Edison, it was indeed the same story. A well-coached program with plenty of standouts, and while there is plenty of work to be done, the Eagles are certainly poised to make some noise in 2021.
As anyone who follows the game understands, a senior class is perhaps the most important part of a team, lending experience and leadership along the way.
This coming season, Class of 2022 prospects such as soon-to-be four-year starter [player_tooltip player_id="50007" first="Marquis" last="Lymon"] (DB, 5-9, 190) are certainly what this program needs. Someone who leads by example on both sides of the ball – and schools such as Penn State are standing in line.
In addition, top-flight prospects Reece Dobard (WR, 6-4, 185), Omari Mitchell (RB, 5-9, 175) and quarterback Zachary Waters (6-0, 200) will be looked upon to give the offense – and the rest of this team a lift.
The trademark of Atlantic teams is the depth they have on the roster. This senior class will also feature Rockensly Albert (OL, 5-9, 295), Hicarfens Baptiste (DB, 5-9, 180), Lamarcus Bonner (DB, 5-10, 175), Darisse Bridgett (RB, 5-10, 205), Levert Edwards (DE, 6-2, 180) and quality receiver Fred Gaskin (5-9, 155).
The Eagles will also have Sherard Hilaire (LB, 5-9, 180), Kameron Joseph (WR, 6-1, 190), Camron Lawrence (DB, 5-10, 155), Lumaine Lopez (WR, 5-10, 170), [player_tooltip player_id="111527" first="Dezmond" last="Penn"] (OL, 6-0, 305), Jhamarri Pierre-Louis (DB, 6-0, 190), Matthew Pierre-Louis (LB, 5-10, 190), Medro SainClair (WR, 6-2, 180), [player_tooltip player_id="50312" first="Jekkaven" last="Smith"] (DB, 5-10, 175), Denison Touze (DE, 6-2, 180) and receiver Charvonte Williams (5-10, 185).
THE FUTURE HAS SOME PROSPECTS
If the Eagles are going to maintain the success they have achieved through the years, grooming young players will be essential.
The Class of 2023 will certainly be a place to start – with Lully Caesar (OL, 5-9, 215), Madley Chounard (OL, 5-10, 310), Colin Gray (DT, 6-1, 355), Tyler Herring (OL, 5-10, 205), Martay McClendon (WR, 5-9, 165) and Josiah Mitchell (QB, 5-10, 185).
The rising junior class will also have Javonte Pierre-Louis (RB/DB, 5-9, 165), Samuel Sanon (WR, 6-3, 175), Desmond Self (OL/DL, 6-4, 295), [player_tooltip player_id="128680" first="Xavier" last="Warthen"] (DL, 6-0, 195) and linebacker Ale’xavier Wright (5-10, 205).
As impressive as the Class of 2023 will be – the group of rising sophomores (2024) will have the Eagles in the mix for several years.
Athletes such as Demarion Alberic (WR, 6-0, 155), Norris Brinkley (OL, 6-3, 355), Heber Devilma (DE, 5-10, 175), Travis Emilca (DE, 5-10, 175), Tyrese Herring (LB, 5-9, 208), Tyrique Hollis (DB, 5-10, 165) and running back Karl Luccin (5-10, 180) will be special. So will Seth Louidort (OL, 5-9, 245), Jayden Parrish (RB/LB, 6-1, 185), Ricardy Renard (OL, 5-10, 280), Wesley Simervil (OL, 5-9, 275), Jamall Stewart (DB, 5-10, 155), Nick Touze (DL/OL, 6-2, 215) and Jaden Williams (WR, 5-7, 155).
