I enjoyed covering the National Preps Collegiate Showcase on Saturday in Bermuda Run, NC. Jeff Mullen and his staff did a great job hosting the camp which was well-run and organized. My colleague, Will Helms is going to cover the offensive players. I observed a lot of talented football players participating at the camp. I am going to cover the defensive players who caught my attention with impressive performances competing in various drills.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28661" first="Donovan" last="Spellman"], DE, 6’4", 215, Clayton HS</strong>. Donovan displayed speed and quickness and agility while participating in the drills. He was focused and determined displaying good footwork while making cuts and changing directions in fluid motions. Donovan attacked the bags with speed and great use of hands. The Power5 offers should pick up for him as he begins the summer camp circuit.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"], DT, 6’4", 285, New Bern HS</strong>. KJ moved with power and grace through the drills, displaying good footwork on lateral movement on the cone drill. He displayed strong hand movement moving forward attacking the bags with great force. KJ changed direction quickly and maintained good balance while participating in the drills. KJ’s performance will continue to attract Power5 offers.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97534" first="CJ" last="Mims"], DT, 6’2", 260, West Craven HS</strong>. CJ moved with power and quickness while participating in the drills. He displayed good footwork changing direction and lateral movement. CJ attacked the bags with quick, strong use of hands while moving forward. He covered a lot of ground quickly. The Power5 offers should pick up for him as he begins the summer camp circuit.
<strong>Alex McCalop, DT, 6’3", 255, Southeast Guilford HS</strong>. Alex displayed an explosive start moving forward attacking the bags with good hand movement. He had good balance and footwork as he maneuvered through the cone drill quickly. Alex got up off the ground quickly displaying good lateral movement and did not stumble while participating in an agility drill. The D1 offers should pick up for him as he begins the summer camp circuit.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="144722" first="Isaiah" last="Shirley"], DT, 6’3" 235, Watauga HS</strong>. Isaiah displayed good lateral movement and quickness while participating in the cone drill. He attacked the bags with quickness and good use of hands. Isaiah displayed good footwork and lateral movement while maintaining good balance. The Power5 offers should begin to pick up for him as he begins the summer camp circuit.
