<em><strong>Top quarterback</strong></em>
<strong>Sam Vaulton, Venice, 2021</strong>
Vaulton has a remarkable story. He and his family moved to California during the pandemic and instead of moving again to a state where they were playing football in the fall, he decided to stay and wait it out. Oh and he also is missing half of his index finger on his throwing hand. Venice is one of the top teams in the City Section and Vaulton has been fantastic. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 1002 yards in just four games with 11 touchdowns and one interception. He led Alcoa High to a state championship in Tennessee in 2019 and is arguably the best quarterback in the City Section.

<em><strong>Top rushing performance</strong></em>
<strong>Virgil Tynes III, Manual Arts, 2021</strong>
Tynes is one of the best running backs in the City Section and he was dominant in a win over Fairfax last week. He rushed for 207 yards on just 13 carries with three touchdowns. He also added 21 tackles on defense and is the best player on a Manual Arts team that is a borderline top 10 team in the Section.

<em><strong>Another top rusher</strong></em>
<strong>Caleb McCarty, Cleveland, 2021</strong>
Cleveland won the West Valley League title largely due to McCarty. He had four rushing touchdowns in a route of El Camino Real to finish the season and rushed for nearly 700 yards and 12 touchdowns in just four games. McCarty is the best player on a Cleveland team which some media members said was the best Cleveland team in nearly 30 years.

<em><strong>Top defensive player</strong></em>
<strong>Isaiah Howard, San Pedro, 2021</strong>
Howard was dominant on both sides of the ball for the Pirates in a blowout win against Garfield to end San Pedro's short season. He had nine tackles and two sacks on defense and rushed for two touchdowns on offense. San Pedro would have been a fun team to watch in a City Section playoff and belongs with the top teams in the Section like Birmingham.
