Sometimes, you get to see some things in person about a prospect that you couldn’t see on film. Over the next several months, I’ll be evaluating prospects from all over the Northeast in person and bringing my thoughts to Prep Redzone.
Here is Vol. 3 of my live evaluations.
Kai Hodge/5-10/190/Running Back/Atlantic Shores/Virginia/2022
Event: NextGen All America Camp
Kai Hodge rushed 66 times for 660 yards and eight touchdowns and caught eight passes for 141 yards. I confirmed a few things that I watched on film after watching him in person. He’s not a fast-twitch guy, he runs with a stride and can run past and around the first and second wave of defenders. Hodge impressed me with his ability to make people miss during the “cat and mouse” drill. Hodge also caught a lot of passes during 1v1’s against the linebackers. He’s a north-south runner. He will need to work on being a little faster off the ball.

Dante Lovett Dante Lovett 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB DeMatha | 2023 State MD /6-1/185/Defensive Back/DeMatha/Maryland/2023
Event: All State Preps Camp
Dante Lovett Dante Lovett 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB DeMatha | 2023 State MD was able to play three games during his sophomore year of football during the 2020-2021 season. I saw Lovett take part as both a wide receiver and defensive back. The only reason Lovett probably didn’t take home any top prospect honors that day is because of the amount of talent at the event. Lovett made clips of his plays at the event and could showcase some of his coverage skills. He’s 6-1 with long arms and the ability to cover receivers downfield. Boston College offered Lovett in April.
Eric Willis Eric Willis 5'9" | 150 lbs | DB Academy Park | 2022 State PA /5-9/150/Wide Receiver/Academy Park/Pennsylvania/2022
Event: All State Preps Camp
Eric Willis Eric Willis 5'9" | 150 lbs | DB Academy Park | 2022 State PA had to wait until the spring to play football. He was worth the wait. On film, he looks like a blur running down the field to catch passes. In person, it’s the same. For his high school team, he’s not asked to run too many types of routes. His job is to get downfield and make big catches and that’s something he does well for his Academy Park football team. At the ASP camp, he displayed a quick burst in and out of his cuts, great speed downfield, and concentration to complete the catch on 50/50 balls. He’s under the radar as a prospect because of playing his junior season late during the 2020-2021 school year. I am confident that Willis will impress college coaches once he gets on the prospect camp circuit. He’ll need to put on a little more weight but his speed and quickness can negate any thoughts of him being considered too small. The point is this: Willis can play!
