Cedar Falls – Hunter Jacobson (QB) Class of 2022 Hudl Twitter
Hunter had a quality junior season, throwing 11 Touchdowns and only 4 Interceptions. Hunter is great in the play-action game and does a good job finding mismatches to expose. He showed flashes of above-average athleticism and made some impressive plays evading pressure. Hunter will have a more significant workload this coming season with star Ryan Ostrich Ryan Ostrich 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Cedar Falls | 2021 IA leaving. Cedar Falls is always in the mix as a top team in the state, and Hunter Jacobson will be a big factor in continuing that tradition.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy – Alex Koch (LB) Class of 2022
I could not find film on Hudl for Alex Koch, and Cedar Rapids Kennedy lost a lot of production on the offensive side and defensive side. I went with Alex Koch because he has impressive stats at linebacker and will probably have the role Drew Bartels had last season. Alex had 35 Tackles, 29 Solo Tackles, and 10.5 Tackles for Loss. Cedar Rapids Kennedy also has a transfer from Linn-Mar (Jeron Senters), who led Class 4A in interceptions his sophomore year and could also blow up and become the team’s MVP.
Dubuque Senior – Jack Gilligan Jack Gilligan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Dubuque Senior | 2022 State IA (QB) Class of 2022 Hudl Twitter
Jack Gilligan Jack Gilligan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Dubuque Senior | 2022 State IA is on the cusp of being considered a top QB in the state. He has the speed and the athleticism to generate big runs. Jack has the throw power to dot up opposing defenses. The only thing he is missing is one of the most essential things a QB can have: decision-making ability. Jack threw 9 Touchdowns, ran for 8 Rushing Touchdowns, and threw for over 1000 yards. This is an impressive stat line, weighed down by eight interceptions. If Jack improves his decision-making, he is going to generate a lot of attention.
Dubuque Hempstead – Anterio Thompson (DL) Class of 2022 Hudl Twitter
Dubuque Hempstead lost a lot of seniors, which makes this a more challenging pick. I like Anterio Thompson for two reasons. One, I like his explosiveness off the line. He out speeds opposing linemen, and that’s a rare thing to find in linemen. Two, he had quality production, as well putting up 37 Tackles, 29 Solo Tackles, 2 Sacks, 2 Tackles for Loss. Still, someone else could easily step up for the Mustangs this season.
Muscatine – Mason Crabtree (RB) Class of 2022 Hudl
This was a difficult call. Muscatine lost a senior class that made up a significant portion of their roster. Mason stands out because they used him very effectively a couple of times. He put up 124 Rushing Yards, 1 Touchdown, and 5.8 Yards Per Carry. Overall, team MVP is up for grabs.
Davenport West – Brady Hansen (QB) Class of 2023
This was a hard choice. Davenport West struggled last year, going 0-8, and did not have a player that stood out too much. I selected Brady because he is a sophomore QB, and he threw for 500 plus yards. I hope to see some improvement from this team next year. There are lots of underclassmen playing, so they have some upside.
