The last part of the series! This part features Ankeny Centennial, Waukee Northwest, Urbandale, Sioux City East, Des Moines East, and Sioux City West. Lets dive in!
Ankeny Centennial - [player_tooltip player_id="100879" first="Trey" last="Porter"] (ATH) Class of 2022 Hudl Twitter
[player_tooltip player_id="100879" first="Trey" last="Porter"] was Centennial’s MVP last season, and he will almost definitely be MVP next season. Trey saw snaps at DB and HB. He is explosive out of the backfield and has quality break-away speed. He has a long frame at 6-2 180 lbs., has shut down ability at corner, and has good recovery speed. He rushed for 582 Rush Yards, 5 Touchdowns, and averaged 6.3 Yards Per Carry. He is a great all-around athlete and has a high ceiling. Trey committed to Northern Illinois on April 10th.
Sadly, I cannot do either of Waukee’s teams yet. They have not come out with official rosters. A player that I think will have the best season recruitment-wise is [player_tooltip player_id="100041" first="Benjamin" last="Reiland"]. Benjamin is a tremendous defensive end and has gotten attention from multiple Division One schools. Except for him, it is too early to tell.
Urbandale - [player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"] (QB) Class of 2023 Hudl Twitter
Urbandale suffered a tough, blowout loss last season to a battle-tested Valley team. Urbandale had one of the best rosters they have had in years but couldn’t get over the hump. Still, the season allowed [player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"] to gain valuable experience as he showed flashes of being a high-quality QB. Peyton is excellent off of play-action and makes good reads pre-snap. He is accurate, as well, placing the ball in tight spaces. I am interested to see what it is like when he is given the keys to the offense next season. I would not be surprised if he raises his stock during his junior season and gets some quality colleges looking at him. Peyton threw for 951 Passing Yards, 9 Passing Touchdowns, 3 Interceptions, and a Completion Percentage of 55.1%.
Sioux City East - [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] (QB) Class of 2022 Hudl Twitter
Stat-wise, [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] had a great Junior season with 17 Passing Touchdowns, 1458 Passing Yards, 6 Interceptions, and a 58.3 Completion Percentage. He has a solid arm and a good, deep ball. Sioux City East was having a great season until a disappointing blowout loss to Ankeny Centennial. [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] will be the main star of this Sioux City East team next year, and with a solid supporting cast of athletes like [player_tooltip player_id="148869" first="Davares" last="Whitaker"], expectations are high. It will be interesting to see if they can get farther in the playoffs than last year.
Des Moines East - Daveyon Shumpert (DE/WR) Class of 2022
Another tough choice. East took a big hit losing Trent Brown (who would have been MVP) to Des Moines Lincoln. Additionally, Des Moines East only played two games. Daveyon put up quality production for two games having 9 Tackles and 7 Solo Tackles. I am sure Des Moines East will have other MVP options, but for now, I am confident with Daveyon.
Sioux City West - Keavian Hayes (ATH) Class of 2023
Sioux City West had a bad 2020 season, going 0-8. At this point, nobody sticks out as an obvious prospect. I picked Keavian because he has quality potential and could help turn around Sioux City West’s program. He put up 213 Rushing Yards on only 19 Carries.
