I was on the sidelines for the highly anticipated matchup between Cardinal Gibbons HS and New Bern HS for the Eastern Regional 4A Championship Game. The players listed played at a higher level throughout the game and earned the recognition:
<strong>John Caramanico, DT, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong> was a dominant force on the defensive line throughout the game. John made several solo tackles and assisted on several tackles, disrupting New Bern’s offensive drives. <strong>John Caramanico</strong> performance throughout the game was outstanding.
<strong>Pierce Johnston, DE</strong> displayed good lateral movement and quickness as he stuffed the run on several plays. Pierce is a very active player who assisted on several tackles throughout the game.
<strong>Carter Scearce, MLB</strong> is a technique-sound linebacker who displays good lateral movement. Carter reads the offense and reacts quickly to disrupt the play. <strong>Carter Scearce</strong> covers a lot of ground quickly and made several solo tackles in the open field.
<strong>Jake Ladd, DE</strong> displayed good foot speed and lateral movement to disrupt the play. Jake made several solo tackles and assisted on several tackles throughout the game.
Cardinal Gibbons defensive unit performance was outstanding throughout the game. The defensive unit did a good job stretching out the offensive plays with good pursuit angles, resulting in multiple players assisting on tackles.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"], DT, New Bern HS</strong> was double-teamed and triple-teamed on a few plays in an effort to slow him down. KJ displayed quickness out of his stance and strong use of hands to combat the blockers. KJ made several tackles, often running down the ball carrier to make the tackle. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"]</strong> was a dominant force on the defensive line, sacking the quarterback on one series despite being double-teamed throughout the game.
<strong>No’tavien Green, DE</strong> displayed a strong pass rush throughout the game, resulting in a quarterback sack. No’tavien displayed good technique and lateral movement. <strong>No’tavien Green</strong> was a very active player who made several tackles throughout the game.
<strong>Manny Ortiz, LB</strong> displayed good lateral movement while reacting to the play to stop the ball carrier. Manny did a good job of reading the offense and assisted on several tackles throughout the game.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="108948" first="William" last="Lovick"], RB/MLB</strong> displayed good reaction time after reading the offense to disrupt the play. William is a technique-sound player who made several tackles and assisted on several tackles.
New Bern defensive unit performance was outstanding throughout the game. The defensive unit did a good job of disrupting the passing attack, resulting in a couple of sacks.
