First, we look at the skill positions. Offensive and defensive linemen will be coming as there were too many good players to put them in just one article.
Life Christian (Richmond) QB Shain Hoover Shain Hoover 6'3" | 205 lbs | TE Life Christian Academy | 2022 State VA
Hoover is my pick for MVP of the camp, originally from Smithfield, Hoover did play there before transferring to Life Christian and being the starter this past fall. Hoover also worked out at tight end, where he says he has a few schools looking at him but I think he should stat at QB. Hoover is accurate and athletic, both things that will help him in recruiting if he can get more film and throw in front of more coaches this offseason.
Granby (Norfolk) WR Future Roberts-Williams
Roberts-Williams, like his teammate Marcellus Roscoe, maybe getting overlooked because he is simply overshadowed by bigger programs in Norfolk but Future has all the tools to be a good slot receiver. Good hands, good route running and improving speed all bode well for Roberts-Williams as he heads into his senior season at Granby. New to camps, Roberts-Williams should have plenty of time to impress coaches this summer.
Churchland (Portsmouth) ATH Kaleb Gallop
Gallop the brother of Howard DB Kenny Gallop, has been part of the two best seasons in Churchland football history the past two years and has been able to learn and grow in those seasons. Kaleb is an athlete but I would play him at running back as he has speed and hands to be an above-average pass catcher, but FB could work just as well. Gallop has been hearing from App State a lot and is looking for his first offer this summer
Kecoughtan (Hampton) WR Gabrial Jackson
I hadn’t seen much of Jackson until the camp as Kecoughtan got started late in the spring and didn’t get a lot of chances to play but he can catch the ball really well, his best asset is his hands as his routes could use a little improvement but he has solid speed. Standing at 6’0″ and 195lbs, Jackson has good size. Jackson also attended the Emory and Henry camp recently and will be making his rounds on the camp circuit this summer.
Catholic (Va Beach) RB/LB Cody Parret
Under new leadership, Catholic is hoping to get back to where they once were, and if they do that, it could be great for Parret’s recruiting. I would probably play him at linebacker but he took reps with running backs and looked solid running drills. There was no contact at the camp and I haven’t seen Parret play so I don’t know how his tackling skills are but we will find out if he does more camps and as next season rolls around.
Western Branch (Chesapeake) ATH Ty Todd
Todd is another recruit I hadn’t seen before the camp but he could play either receiver or corner. Todd has good speed and can keep up with guys at corner and is able to get just enough separation at wide receiver to put his good hands to use, outside of the camp, I looked at Todd’s tape and he looks solid but I’m sure he will get better and improve this summer if he does more camps.
