Here’s an in-depth look into some of the top positional performances from around the state. [player_tooltip player_id="87176" first="Chance" last="McDonald"], QB, Steilacoom, 2021 The Western Kentucky commit finished his HS career with another strong performance throwing for almost 400 yards and five touchdowns. He threw for over 300 yards in five of six games this season. He’s a consistent pocket passer that is able to hit is spots at all three levels. He shows good natural arm talent with the ability to mix up velocities and throw from different arm angles to deliver an accurate and catchable ball. Displays a high football IQ in combination with his plus instincts, timing, and anticipation. Had offers from Bucknell, Georgetown, Idaho, Missouri State, Montana State-Northern, and San Jose State before committing to Western Kentucky. [player_tooltip player_id="87436" first="Skyler" last="Cassel"], QB, West Valley, 2023, It was a record-breaking night for Skyler in the season finale win over Eisenhower. He tied Kellen Moore’s record with eight touchdown passes and then overtook the school single-game yardage record by throwing for 520 yards, also ranking fourth on the state’s all-time list. He’s a strong pocket passer that can pick apart defenses but also shows a great ability to improvise and extend the play when protection breaks down. Good accuracy and zip on short/intermediate routes but excels throwing the deep ball with touch. Love his ability to see/scan the entire field and make smart decisions with the football. Good young talent and upside. [player_tooltip player_id="87218" first="Cooper" last="Christensen"], WR, Royal, 2021 Cooper had a huge game in the win over Moses Lake racking up 10 receptions for 200 yards and three touchdowns. He’s a strong route runner that is smooth in and out of his breaks and understands how to sell his routes to create separation. He’s a natural pass catcher with a surprising large catch radius, he does a good job extending and catching everything away from his body. He’s an explosive playmaker with great ability after the catch to turn short receptions into long gains or touchdowns. Plays a physical brand of football that is tough with and without the ball in his hands. The versatile athlete was an All-State selection on both sides of the ball in 2019. Holds offers from Air Force and Linfield. [player_tooltip player_id="87239" first="Caleb" last="Christensen"], QB, Royal, 2021 The 2019 1A Player of the Year capped off an impressive career and an undefeated season by throwing for 400 yards and five touchdowns. He’s an efficient QB that’s smart and takes care of the football. Plays well with his eyes, he does a good job going through his progression reading coverage and making quick decisive decisions. Strong pocket presence, he’s able to feel pressure and step up while keeping his eyes down field and delivering an accurate ball. Still uncommitted he has a handful of offers on the table including Linfield, Pacific, Whitworth, Whittier, and Virginia Military Institute. Ryan Black, RB, Glacier Peak, 2021 A week six top performer but out did himself in week seven rushing for a school record 356 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries. He’s an explosive playmaker on both sides of the ball but as a ball carrier he’s a downhill back that is extremely difficult to bring down. Runs with great balance, pad level, and leverage to run through contact and break a ton of tackles. Possesses deceptive breakaway speed once he gets in space. Offered by Whitworth but is one of the better 2021’s still available. [player_tooltip player_id="87296" first="Arona" last="Tauiliili"], RB/LB, Auburn Riverside, 2021 Filled the stat sheet on both sides of the ball. On offense, he carried the ball 24 times for 111 yards and three touchdowns while on defense he had seven TKL’s, three TFL’s, one sack, and one FF. He’s a throwback RB/MLB combination that is tough, physical, and hard-nosed. Possesses a strong and well-balanced frame at 6’0” 210 lbs. He plays the game fast and downhill seeking contact while being extremely powerful at the POA. Holds offers from Arizona Christian and Ottawa (AZ). Projects as a LB at the next level based on his size, quick trigger, and ability in pursuit.
