The term "skill position" is one that normally points to where the playmakers can be found. At the wide receiver position, skill is just one of the necessary traits needed to be successful. Strength, agility and intelligence are all critical components in the make-up of a top-tier wide receiver. Fortunately, Indiana’s Class of 2022 is replete with such players. This week, we look at the wide receivers who have carved out a spot in our state rankings. We start today with the four who currently occupy the top spots in the class at this position. These are the playmakers who turn Friday Night Lights into their own personal highlight reels. [player_tooltip player_id="39048" first="Omar" last="Cooper"], 6’1, 170 pounds, Lawrence North [player_tooltip player_id="39048" first="Omar" last="Cooper"] is a tremendous route-runner. He shows good understanding of the coverages and how to get open. He can be a threat both vertically as well as underneath. One of the great things about Cooper’s game is how he keeps working all the way through the duration of the play. Even though he has completed his route, Cooper will continue to fight to get open and he will come back to the football and make it easier on the quarterback. Also impressive is the way that Cooper finishes the play. He is a sure-handed receiver who always looks to pick up yards after the catch. [player_tooltip player_id="39048" first="Omar" last="Cooper"] has what it takes to be a potential star at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="97998" first="Jeffrey" last="Simmons"], 6’6, 210 pounds, Fishers [player_tooltip player_id="97998" first="Jeffrey" last="Simmons"] is a serious match-up problem for any opposing defense. 6’6 gives him the perfect size and length to win any contested ball. In 2020, Simmons posted over 600 yards on 50 receptions in just seven games. [player_tooltip player_id="97998" first="Jeffrey" last="Simmons"] is somebody who will almost always require extra attention due to his size, speed and athleticism. He is a very dynamic player who shows a lot of potential. I believe that [player_tooltip player_id="97998" first="Jeffrey" last="Simmons"] will have an outstanding Senior campaign in 2021. [player_tooltip player_id="97822" first="Amarion" last="Moore"], 6’3, 180 pounds, Concord [player_tooltip player_id="97822" first="Amarion" last="Moore"] shows himself to be a very strong and physically-gifted player. On top of his great route-running ability, Moore can high point the football very well. He also shows the crucial ability to win a 50-50 ball. He also can make things happen after the catch. Moore can create a big play after the catch is made and he shows that he can break tackles and make defenders miss. [player_tooltip player_id="97822" first="Amarion" last="Moore"] is a big-play wide receiver who will cause serious problems for anybody that he lines up against. [player_tooltip player_id="98005" first="Jordan" last="Turner"], 6’0, 180 pounds, North Side [player_tooltip player_id="98005" first="Jordan" last="Turner"] is a playmaker all over the field. He is excellent both as a receiver as well as a punt returner. Turner is very quick and he shows great elusiveness. Turner racked up over 800 receiving yards last year for the Legends. He has the speed to take the top off a defense, but Turner is exceptional at running routes underneath and in the screen game. This works out very well since Turner has the ability to turn those short completions into huge gains. If you can get Turner the ball, he will make something happen. [player_tooltip player_id="98005" first="Jordan" last="Turner"] will help offenses at the next level light up the score board. 2022 figures to be one of the best classes of wide receivers that Indiana has produced in a while. The state is showing serious offensive firepower this year when you factor in the great quarterback class that is also on offer in the Hoosier state this year.. I will be spending a lot of time looking at the wide receiver position this week. These student-athletes are flat-out game changers. Their talent, intelligence and- most importantly- their passion for football make them elite prospects.
