The Players Corner: Jack Lennon, QB – Plant High
The Players corner is a series where I get to sit down and interview prospects in the Bay Area. It’s a fun way to get to know some of these players outside of just evaluating them. We at Prep Redzone Florida want to bring you all-access into these players, it’s important to get to know them as individuals and what makes them great on the field! This series will give you the ability to get under the helmet and see what makes these prospects click and gives you behind the scenes coverage.
Today‘s spotlight will be on Jack Lennon, quarterback for Plant High. Jack is a player that I think will have a breakout year this season, he comes from a school that has a rich tradition in quarterbacks that have all went on and excelled at the college level in Aaron Murray, Robert Marve, and Jordan McCloud to name a few. I’m excited to watch him lead Plant this season and take them back to the playoffs.
Jack Lennon (6-2, 180 – 3.63 GPA)
Talk about your junior season. What did you learn from it?
My junior season was filled with change and learning how to adapt. I bonded with new teammates and assimilated into the team’s culture.. Transfering to Plant at the beginning of the season was a big decision for me and my family but felt like home as soon as I got there. Being able to play this year for Plant in that historic stadium and atmosphere was great. We did not finish how we wanted but that is just another chip on the shoulder and extra motivation for the whole program. Due to my transfer I played in four games, threw for 800 yards with 1 touchdown.
Who is your biggest role model and guide in your life?
My biggest role model in my life is my father. He had to work for everything he has and has instilled in me from a young age that hard work is the key to your dreams. A big football mentor in my life is Stephen Garcia. I would be no where close to the player I am today without him.
What would you say are your biggest strengths in your game currently? Biggest weaknesses?
My strengths are my leadership and arm talent to make any throw on the field. I believe any throw I can make in the pocket I can make on the run as well. My athleticism is underrated running a 4.6 40 and having a 36 inch vertical jump. I have been working in the film room on my better understanding of the game and playing smarter through my progressions and pre-snap diagnosing the defense.
What colleges have looked at you in terms of interest and offers in particular as a rising senior?
I currently hold no offers but have been in conversations with Columbia, Davidson, Georgetown, and Dartmouth.
Plant promoted longtime assistant Coach Brown to head coach, talk about what its like to play for him, and what you’re most excited about with this year’s team?
The second I stepped foot on Plant’s campus Coach Brown took me under his wing and has been a huge teacher on the football field and a mentor on becoming a better man. Coach Brown and I spend a tremendous amount of hours together. He has been a part of the program longer than I have been alive, He will continue the great traditions of Plant Football created by coach Weiner as well as bring some new thinking and innovation on both sides of the ball. I am really looking forward to this year’s team bringing the winning mentality back to the program with a first goal of winning the District Championship.
What is your favorite part of the game? What player do you model your game after?
In my opinion there is nothing better in the world than running down the field after a huge touchdown pass, having the crowd at your back and getting to celebrate a hard fought win with the boys. I model my game after Zach Wilson. We both love to get out of the pocket and use our legs but we are pass first and never miss an opportunity to take the top off a defense.
Personally, what is your ultimate goal with the game of football whether it be on the field or off of it?
Personally, I love football, the team element of the game, the competitiveness, and winning championships. On a personal level I would love to play the game at the next level while getting a valued education.
