Many people tell stories about Devin Hester – and how the one-time Riviera Beach Suncoast star had put this school on the map.
It had never been a sports hotbed, and while it has long been a strong academic school – athletes who lived close by and played football – would find their way to schools such as Dywer or Palm Beach Gardens.
To coach at this program, you have to love teaching and understand that depth will always be an issue, and winning football is always a priority, but not the only objective.
What Jimmy Clark has been able to do in his years at the school is keep to his coaching principles: you give your student/athletes the best football experience that they will have anywhere else – because what they will learn at this school is everything. From football to getting into college and prepare for life, this is what this program is all about.
By attending the sports-oriented programs you may not get what you receive at Suncoast – and that’s why this coming senior class (2022) has a chance to showcase skill, technique, athleticism and a well-rounded experience – in the classroom.
While wins against Village Academy and Spanish River will serve as confidence builders, it’s the losses to Dywer, Jupiter, Coconut Creek, Boynton Beach and Seminole Ridge are games you learn from.
This rising senior class will be the place to focus, heading into spring. This is the group where the leadership and experience will need to come from.
The Chargers boast several prospects who have that opportunity to help to elevate this program:
Anthony Kafouros, DE, OLB, 6-3, 250. Is special – with a 3.98 GPA, which have helped to open doors to schools such as Duke, Wake Forest and the Ivy Leagues, who all see the amazing balance between the football field and the classroom.
