There may not be a 5-star in this group, but the talent is still there, and there’s a few who should see their stock rise this summer during the camp circuit.
Here are a few offensive linemen in the 2022 class to know who should see their stock rise on the recruiting trail over the next few months…
Chance Reid- Morgan County
Just south of Athens is where you’ll find one of the biggest sleeper offensive linemen in the state. That would be center/guard. Chance Reid. One of the nastiest and more physical interior lineman in the region, Reid is coming off a big junior season where he did his job each and every day. He was excellent in the run game and opened up holes between the tackles on a consistent basis all year. He dominated opponents in region play and became one of the leaders on the team throughout the season. Off the field, the 6-foot-4 275-pounder works on a farm in the area and holds an impressive 3.91 GPA. The three-year starter missed 4 games last year because of Covid exposure but still proved to be one of the top offensive linemen in the region, earning 4AAA All Region Honorable Mention. Reid placed 4th in state for heavyweight division after wrestling only one year. He set the school shot put record after starting the sport a couple months ago. He does it all and is deserving of some D1 interest sooner than later.
Jose Gonzalez – Warner Robins
The Demons rolled to another state championship last year and a lot of that has to do with their high-powered offense, scoring 49+ in three of their final five games. They also put up 62 points against powerhouse Cartersville to win the 5A state title. A lot of their offensive success came from their offensive line play, and that’s where Jose Gonzalez comes into play. The big 6-foot-3 275-pounder is quick for his size and can dish out some devastating blocks in the run game. He’s easy to run behind as he consistently finds his way to get defenders on the ground. He’s big and strong enough to handle bigger interior defensive linemen, but he can also get to the outside and block a smaller linebackers or defensive backs when asked to pull and find defenders at the 2nd level. He’s one of the more underrated offensive line prospects in middle Georgia and will try to anchor the Warner Robins offense as a senior in hopes of repeating as state champs.
Canton Wilhoit – Mill Creek
Back in Gwinnett County is where you’ll find one of the more underrated offensive tackle prospects in 7A Region 8. The Mill Creek lineman is still an unknown prospect but that might change over the next few months. Wilhoit came on strong towards the end of last year and showed that he can hold his own against speedy edge defenders on the outside. He’s got a long frame at 6-foot-3 290-pounds and plays with a mean streak. He shows good footwork and his long arms allow him to keep defenders at bay/ His best football is ahead of him, and now Mill Creek has a reliable left tackle going into the 2021 season. If he continues to develop and add more muscle and weight to his frame, he could see his stock rise as he gets closer to his senior season.
