Spring Sleepers to Know: Holmes County

Holmes County has always been a hotbed for talent. Last year, safety Andre Ellington was a standout player who signed with Mississippi State. This year, rising senior defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="104526" first="Khamauri" last="Rogers"] has been recruited nearly every school in the country. While there are certainly some big names, folks aren’t talking about a lot of other prospects in Holmes County that have college potential. Let’s dive into some of the biggest sleepers. <strong>Jerrell Boyd</strong> | 2022 RB A shifty back, Jerrell Boyd was a big time playmaker on the Holmes County Central offense. Boyd stands at 5’9" 185 but looks to have room to continue growing. He has quick feet and good vision that allow him to find the open hole and go. Boyd starts and stops well and makes defenders miss in the open field with ease. Although he isn’t the biggest, he is not afraid of contact and bounces off it well. Boyd can also catch out of the backfield and be a valuable asset in the pass game. Currently lists offers from Austin Peay and Holmes. Will be a riser in the next ranking update. <strong>Marlique Flemming</strong> | 2022 OL One of the bookend tackles, Marlique Flemming stands tall at 6’6" with great length. Flemming has the lean body type and athleticism that coaches love to see at the next level. He can bend well and plays low to dominate the opposing defender. Out of his stance, Flemming can fire off the ball and make contact almost instantly. Flemming plays hard and finishes blocks through the whistle. More of a run blocker than pass protector right now, but certainly has all the tools to be successful in it. Love how athletic he is in space. Currently lists no offers. <strong>Keyidric Dixson</strong> | 2022 OL The other tackle, Keyidric Dixson is listed at 6’3" 285 and looks to have the making of a future guard. Similar to his teammate, Dixson can bend well and fire off the ball. Dixson is a mauler in the run game and uses his natural strength to push defenders into the dirt. He does a great job working to the second level and is always looking for work. His toughness makes him a great player. Will be a good interior lineman. Currently lists no offers. <strong>Trey Humphrey</strong> | 2023 DL A recent transfer from Central Holmes Christian, Trey Humphrey has the making of a highly valuable edge rusher. Humphrey stands at 6’3" with long arms and the ability to bend off the edge. Even though he’s a big guy, Humphrey is legit fast. He has a quick initial step off the ball and looks twitchy in space. Humphrey is consistently in the opposing teams backfield and uses his athleticism and hand usage to get there. Big time upside. Due for a huge junior campaign if all goes well. Currently lists no offers, but has interest from some major universities in the south. <strong>Ricky Fletcher</strong> | 2022 DB A talented member of a great secondary, Ricky Fletcher made a bunch of plays last season. He has elite size for the position at 6’3" 185 and has the arm length to go along with it. Fletcher is a physical defensive back who isn’t afraid of contact. He tackles well and jams effectively at the line of scrimmage. When the ball is in the air, Fletcher can quickly trigger and use his length to force a pass break up and incompletion. Also plays some offense and special teams as a returner. Really like his size and athleticism combo and should have a big year ahead of him. Currently lists no offers. <strong>Dandreyus Giles</strong> | 2022 DB Last season, Dandreyus Giles played the free safety role of the secondary. Giles is a quick twitched safety with speed that can cover ground quickly. He does a great job of reading the quarterback’s eyes and being able to trigger on the ball once it is thrown. Although he isn’t the biggest, this guy will come up and hit you in the mouth. Giles runs with a head full of steam and crushes the ball carrier when he gets an opportunity. On offense, Giles plays slot receiver and has the speed to score from anywhere. Love his physicality and how great he plays in the box. Currently lists no offers.
