The Golden Triangle of Mississippi (Starkville, Columbus, West Point) has been the home of many big time ball players historically. Two of the largest powerhouses in their respective divisions of 6A and 5A are located within miles of each other. Freakish athletes seem to pop up every other year from one of these three cities. Today, we will be highlighting a couple sleepers in the Golden Triangle that you may not have heard of yet. [player_tooltip player_id="106317" first="Eric" last="Thomas Jr"] | 2023 DL | Starkville At 6’3" 230, [player_tooltip player_id="106317" first="Eric" last="Thomas Jr"] has the size to play college ball as a sophomore in high school. Thomas has an explosive first step and can get into backfields quickly. His athleticism is also evident in space as he runs well in pursuit of the ball carrier. Thomas has good hand usage and can use his variety of moves to separate from offensive linemen. A naturally strong kid, Thomas excels versus the run. With an increased skillset as a pass rusher, Thomas has all the tools to be a big time prospect. Will be a fun kid to keep track of this summer as the camp circuit begins to pick up. Michael Mosley | 2022 ATH | Columbus Ball player. Michael Mosley is an absolute game wrecker with the ball in his hands. Mosley could be one of the faster players in Mississippi. His speed and ability to kick into second gear are hard to come by. As a return man, it is best to try and kick away from Mosley. He is explosive in the open field and can score on any given kick return. He also lines up on offense and plays corner. Mosley’s future is most likely as a defensive back. He shows good transition and a real nose for the football. Mosley plays tough and will come up and make some big time tackles. This is a guy with legit college speed and production. Big time riser soon. [player_tooltip player_id="104153" first="Cameron" last="Young"] | 2022 RB | West Point Rushing for 1523 yards and 25 TDs last year, [player_tooltip player_id="104153" first="Cameron" last="Young"] was the focal point of the West Point offense. Young has good size at 5’11" 190 and recently clocked a 4.51 40 yard dash. He currently lists two offers from East Mississippi Community College and Coahoma, but they wont be the only ones for long. Young is a physical and tough runner with speed. He is incredibly hard to bring down and balances well through contact. Young can run well between the tackles, but also has the long speed to score from anywhere on the field. Love his running style. Think it is only a matter of time before more offers start flowing in. Jordan Mitchell | 2022 ATH | Starkville Jordan Mitchell was a player that Starkville used in a variety of ways last season. Mitchell lined up at RB, WR and return man and used his quick twitch and speed to make a lot of plays for the Yellow Jackets. As a receiver, Mitchell has soft hands and catches the ball well. He is dynamic after the catch and can make people miss in space. As a running back, Mitchell plays tough and is not afraid of contact. He runs well in space and between the tackles. As he takes over the backfield as a senior, Mitchell enters the year as a player with tremendous amounts of upside. [player_tooltip player_id="106313" first="Tyrese" last="Erby"] | 2023 DL | Columbus At 6’2" 270, [player_tooltip player_id="106313" first="Tyrese" last="Erby"] is a well built 2023 defensive lineman. Although he is a big kid, Erby is a great athlete. He can bend well off the edge and runs well in space. He has good initial twitch and can cause havoc in the backfield. Erby has natural strength and can push the pocket around in pass rush. He can also change direction well and shows great hustle in pursuit. Really surprised this guy has nothing going on. He has everything physically that a college program could want. Look for him to blow up in the coming months.
