High school football has always been home to many top players being able to play both ways and make a big impact on the game from both sides of the ball. Through out Northern California, specifically the Bay Area, there are many players that project out to one side of the ball at the next level but play both ways for their respective teams. Below, we will list out and break down the film of some of the top two-way stand out players in the Bay Area and who are coming off huge Spring 2021 seasons and who are poised for huge impacts in the Fall.
Salesi Moala, Tennyson HS
Playing all over the field during his last two seasons, Moala is a terrific jumbo athlete that projects as an inside linebacker at the next level. On film, he possesses natural instincts and outstanding ball skills while playing very physical and is able to make open field tackles and take on bigger blockers inside due to leverage and movement abilities. He currently holds one FBS offer from Oregon State and will add more in the coming months.
Frank Payne, Las Lomas HS
Payne is one of the most explosive players in all of Norcal and is a very intriguing prospect at the next level. He is a big time playmaker with the ball in his hands and has great overall speed and quickness near the LOS while able to make people miss in the open field and in traffic while also having solid hands out of the backfield.
Camilo Arquette, Saint Francis HS
Arquette is a FBS caliber player and projects on the defensive side of the ball at the next level. An explosive and rangy athlete, he shows terrific acceleration and open field speed while able to navigate through traffic and be effective in the return game as well. On defense, he is a big time physical presence with a high football IQ and a quick trigger when breaking to ball carriers and runs through contact.
Ivan Robledo, St. Helena HS
Robledo is one of the most physically dominant players in all of Norcal and anchors both sides of the ball for for small school power. A tough and physical runner, he is a North and South style player that has great lower body strength and leg drive through contact with deceptive second level speed and runs with natural forward lean and behind his pads. A true system running back at the next level, he can play at the FBS level in the right offense and is one of the most under-recruited players across the region.
Rocco Schramm, Monte Vista HS
Schramm has had a very productive Junior season and plays on both sides of the ball, but projects as a linebacker at the next level due to size and overall athletic ability. A well put together prospect, he is a downhill thumper that flashes fluidity in space when needed. A very strong tackler that brings a nice thump upon contact, he reads plays quickly and fills/takes on blockers with good leverage and physicality while athletic enough to cover when needed.
Za’Darian Nardi, San Ramon Valley HS
Nardi had a terrific Junior season for the Wolves on both sides of the ball and can play on either side at the next level. A rangy player that is extremely tough, he has good vision through the first level and solid breakaway speed. Displaying good contact balance and able to break arm tackles, he also has good ball skills and breaking ability from his corner position.
Tyler Hoffman, San Ramon Valley HS
Hoffman has ideal size for the next level and can add more size/weight to his frame. A very versatile player that can move in space, block near the LOS and make plays from his defensive end position, he is another intriguing Bay Area prospect with some untapped potential. A physical and athletic player, he is a good perimeter blocker with a big catch radius and strong hands. On defense, he has good range and plays with a strong use of hands at the point of attack while fluid enough off the edge to rush the passer.
Zackary Mercado, Vacaville Christian HS
Mercado is one of the top defensive lineman in the section and projects as a 3-tech or defensive end at the next level depending on what level he ends up playing at. Having an explosive first step, good initial twitch and a wide variety of pass rush moves at his disposal, he is a technician on the LOS and will only continue to develop and grow through his final season for the Falcons.
Luke Levengood, Vacaville HS
Playing both tight end and defensive end, Levengood will most likely kick inside at the next level into a 3-tech or 3-4 defensive end due to strength, size and movement abilities. A heavy handed player with great natural strength, he creates good initial knock back and plays with great leverage for his size and gets nice extension on blockers while pursuing well backside. He also shows good closing speed and lateral movement/change of direction abilities in the box. He is a FCS+ caliber player on the defensive side of the ball.
