As spring ball has begun, coaches have all kinds of new film to watch. April was a busy month for a lot of prospects in Mississippi. Lots of the top prospects continued to add big time offers, while some new risers have added some lower level colleges. From top to bottom, it has been a great month in the Magnolia State.
RISING STARS IN 2023
[player_tooltip player_id="108930" first="Vic" last="Sutton"] | QB | Madison Central
Although he was a bit of an unknown commodity earlier in the year, [player_tooltip player_id="108930" first="Vic" last="Sutton"] has been one of the quickest rising names in the south. After adding some Group of Five offers, Virginia Tech and Arkansas pulled the trigger on Sutton this past April. This is only the beginning for him. The Madison Central product should dominate the camp circuit this summer and continue adding Power 5 offers across the country.
[player_tooltip player_id="106310" first="Tabias" last="Hinton"] | DL | Hattiesburg
After a big time offer from Mississippi State came last month, blue blood Big 10 power Michigan extended an offer to Hinton this month. With his 18.5 sack season as a sophomore, Hinton is on track to have another huge season this year. His length and athleticism will make him one of the most highly recruited DL in MS in 2023.
[player_tooltip player_id="106309" first="Jamarious" last="Brown"] | LB/DL | Moss Point
Brown has been one of the most highly recruited defensive players in the south, but this month added a big time offer from Florida. Florida rarely leaves the state of Florida and Georgia to find their guys, so it speaks volumes to Brown’s talent level that the Gators are trying to get in on him early.
COMMITMENTS
[player_tooltip player_id="113272" first="Wesley" last="Miller"] | DB | Heritage Academy
The all star defensive back from Heritage Academy made the decision to commit to Mississippi State this month. The Bulldogs are getting a long athlete with a ton of versatility in the secondary. Miller is due for a big senior season, and the Mississippi State will have to fight to hold on to him.
[player_tooltip player_id="104367" first="Zach" last="Wilcke"] | QB | Hernando
Junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="104367" first="Zach" last="Wilcke"] committed to Southern Mississippi this month. The Golden Eagles have found their leader for the class and continue to dominate in state recruiting. Wilcke is a great fit for this offense with his athleticism and accuracy off of play action. Really undervalued prospect.
JUCOS ACTIVE INSTATE
The Mississippi junior college system is a fantastic way for prospects to continue playing, earn a degree, and showcase their talents to get recruited again. This past month, many of the state’s top junior colleges extended offers to players that have been undervalued for a while!
Mississippi Gulf Coast, the recent powerhouse in junior college football, offered multiple defenders this month. Names included were some of the guys we have been high on for a while. DB [player_tooltip player_id="104539" first="Avery" last="Carter"], LB [player_tooltip player_id="104477" first="Kelbee" last="Holmes"], DB Ricky Fletcher, DB Kezerrian Wash, LB [player_tooltip player_id="104473" first="Jordan" last="Allen"], and LB JD Nanney were some of the best prospects MGCCC offered. There’s a common trend with these guys - they’re all long, fast, and have a great nose for the football.
Hinds was more focused on the offensive side of the ball. Extending offers to QB [player_tooltip player_id="112388" first="Eli" last="Anderson"], WR Dalton Keys, OL [player_tooltip player_id="133114" first="Logan" last="Johnson"], and WR [player_tooltip player_id="112389" first="Ja’Naylon" last="Dupree"], Hinds looks to be trying to add some instant upgrades to their offense. These guys are all well equipped to run a system that loves to try to air it out.
Continue to watch our local junior colleges get in on some of the state’s biggest sleepers soon. With big senior seasons ahead, there will be plenty of roster spots needing to be filled.
RICH GETTING RICHER
[player_tooltip player_id="104072" first="Trent" last="Singleton"] | ATH | Raymond
One of the most versatile players in the state already has quite the long offer sheet. This past month, he added Indiana. Expect this guy to keep picking things up and have a tough decision to make in December.
[player_tooltip player_id="104205" first="Larry" last="Simmons"] | WR | Moss Point
Former Tupelo stand out and current WR coach at Utah Chad Bumphis extended an offer to Ole Miss commit [player_tooltip player_id="104205" first="Larry" last="Simmons"]. While the Rebels seem to have Simmons locked down, it is an interesting situation to watch nonetheless.
[player_tooltip player_id="113271" first="Jordan" last="Anthony"] | ATH | Tylertown
The fastest player in Mississippi continues to blow up. This month he added offers from Boston College and Western Kentucky in addition to some local junior colleges.
